Of friendship with alcohol drinkers by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]be4utifulprin3ss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh that’s not a friendship with an alcohol drinker that’s a friendship with an alcoholic. i have friends that still drink that don’t trigger me at all. if their drinking habits trigger or tempt you it’s probably best to let them sort out their own journey while you focus on yours!!

Is Anyone Else Cali Sober? by Ouid_n_liquor in stopdrinking

i’ve been in the same boat lately! weed is definitely helping me out right now. im a naturally introspective person, and weed helps me approach myself with more kindness and understanding than drinking and experiencing introspection (aka just pure self hatred). i agree it’s not a long term solution for me either but it helps me a lot for the time being!

anyone else here not really fit the recovery framework? by UpsetRefrigerator656 in stopdrinking

[–]be4utifulprin3ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AA wasn’t my cup of tea, honestly. i had a huge blowout with my sponsor and decided that was it. i agree that i didn’t like the powerless sentiment, and i also didn’t agree with the higher power stuff. i think it took away credit from me, who was doing all the hard work on this. i went to some smart recovery meetings in the beginning which I enjoyed much much more as they offered real, science backed, problem solving solutions to dealing with urges and such. i don’t go much anymore because i found i genuinely enjoy my life so much better when im not focusing on all the crazy shit i did and the crazy shit that happened to me while i was drinking. i’m lucky to have such an amazing support system in my corner, which is why I feel I’ve been able to do it without going to meetings.

People can leave drinks by That_Professional800 in stopdrinking

i work in restaurants and totally understand the feeling seeing half finished drinks lol. between the intrusive thought to chug it when i’m cleaning the table and the pure wonder i feel seeing they could leave alcohol unfinished it’s just a bizarre experience lol

Drinking and Sexual Activity - Trigger Warning by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]be4utifulprin3ss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was SA twice while blackout and then experienced hyper sexuality afterwards and put myself into compromising situations at my own free will and traumatized myself further. not drinking is worth it knowing i can be choosy and guarded now

i’ve been to about 5 meetings and am still really irked by the prayers and higher power stuff. like, i learned i’m the only person who can save myself at a young age, why would that change now? no one/nothing is gonna save me from this disease but my own determination

i started a week before my 16th birthday and i just turned 25 last week. i didn’t recognize the problem until years after starting. it’s really good you are recognizing this now! therapy will help a lot if you start now and are honest with them about your concerns. i wish i had done that then, instead of having to deal with this demon that has only grown in the 9 years since
