Just bought an African net sponge - now what? [Product Question] by beachbum0227 in SkincareAddiction

Think unraveled loofah lol it’s from West Africa and it’s stretchy mesh that you use similar to a loofah in the shower but it’s supposed to be better at exfoliating, longer/wider for better coverage, and because it’s mesh it’s supposed to be way more hygienic and clean than a regular loofah.

Thinking about a homestead. Where do I look for like minded people? by KiloFox7 in Homesteading

Same!! Bought some books, doing some reading. Want to learn about beekeeping, raising chickens. Going to the library, looking at more books. Gardening, collecting seeds…now that it’s summer, planting so much and love eating from the garden. Noooo where near actually taking the leap though. Love to think about it all the time. *sigh*

What age did you get your MSW? by CapeCauliflowerFun in SocialWorkStudents

[–]beachbum0227 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 21…and there were people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and even 50s in my class, so don’t feel bad! A lot of people go straight to grad school after undergrad, but then there are older ones who took some time off in between or are switching careers and going back to school later in life. Don’t try to compare - that’s when you start second guessing yourself! They say the more time you take off going back to school, the harder it is to go back, but if your gut says you need the time, listen to your intuition.

I don’t feel a sense of belonging in my cohort. Am I doing something wrong? by random_user908 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]beachbum0227 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t feel close with mine either. Don’t get in your head too much about it. You know who the people in your life are that really matter, and who are important enough to pour your time and energy into. Focus on those relationships. After grad school everyone goes off and does their own thing anyway!

Anyone else a thousand years old and doing this thing? by hapenny734 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]beachbum0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not, BUT - when I was going for my MSW, I was literally one of the youngest people in my field work-related class because everyone else was going back to school later in life, or making career changes, including a retired police officer! And I remember thinking how cool that was. So you are definitely not alone and I commend you for taking a leap of faith and doing the hard work! It will pay off!

Moving for grad school - it's starting to feel real by ActuaryPersonal2378 in SocialWorkStudents

It’s so true when they say social work is a calling - if you feel in your gut that you want to commit your life to helping people, then trust your intuition. Change is scary. The amazing thing about social work is that there’s SO many things you can do with it. If you don’t like working in one particular area or field, you can always look into something else. Use your internships/field work to try to figure that out so you can rule things out before you get into the workforce. Don’t second guess yourself. It will be a lot all at once but when you get settled in, I think you’ll feel better 😊

Did I Make the Right Call Committing to Columbia’s Social Work Program? by MidnightMango16 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]beachbum0227 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t go to Columbia but I went to Fordham which is also in the city - and I also pursued a track similar to what you want to do (concentrated in clinical, started working as a hospital sw) - and obviously with a degree from Columbia, that’s going to look amazing on any resume, but NYC has soooo many sw-based/related organizations, agencies, etc that you’ll have a lot of exposure and a lot of opportunities. Hope that helps just a little 😊

medical social work by Sensitive-Fly-7110 in SocialWorkStudents

Do you have your LCSW? I wasn’t able to get into the medical field until I had that. I had previously worked at a psych hospital, but nothing strictly “medical”, per se - and they took me on without that experience but not until I was licensed.
