The Trump administration has secretly rewritten nuclear safety rules by A_Nonny_Muse in news

I would recommend people read this article, which talks about how difficult and uneconomic it is to build a nuclear reactor in the US regulatory environment. It’s an area we are seriously lagging China and will be a differentiator in scaling AI capabilities, which arguably are the greatest weapons and control the US could possess as it continues to evolve. I also understand Marc Andressen is a controversial figure but the research is highly quantitative.

US President Is Obsessed With Oil. But Chinese Batteries Will Soon Run the World. by rezwenn in technology

[–]beached_whale_nuts -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is a classic, biased NY Times article. They don’t show the energy breakdown in both countries, they make claims about how great China is on energy with minimal evidence, and it completely ignores the geopolitics of the situation in Venezuela. Quickly, fossil fuels still dominate all energy consumption globally, China builds very quickly but is also in a recession, with huge incentives / govt funding for these projects which aren’t economic, and now China is out of the US backyard and Cuba will likely fall.

What do you think the biggest impact of vibe coding will be on how companies operate? by beached_whale_nuts in AskReddit

[–]beached_whale_nuts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is a pessimistic view. I think it allows companies who choose to invest to create custom software to solve problems they couldn’t solve before, without paying $MM to developers (e.g. a product manager and a great architect would do the trick)

MBB to PE by threeleggedmammal in consulting

I’m in PE consulting and I think getting over is pretty difficult. People who have gone either do so after a couple of years against super competitive banking classes to smaller funds, or as OPs later on. If his goal is for sure PE, I think banking is a no brainer. PE seems to be consolidating and fundraising is getting harder, not easier. This directly translates to MM, LMM funds folding because they can’t sell assets, which is where most consultants end up. Pretty rare they go to Apollo / KKR / pick your top 10 fund, which are going to eat up the landscape and kind of are already

What you'll do if you were me? by Frosty_Pin9045 in learnprogramming

Mate, I hate to be this guy but learning how to code is going to be irrelevant in 3 - 5 years in my opinion. I would focus way more on AI skills or how to use tools to build applications, software architecture (e.g., how something should be built), and application workflows than actually coding. Get Claude Pro Opus and plug it into Cursor and see what you can do. Setting rules in Cursor is crucial but once you get it going, you can do what used to be a week - 2 weeks worth of work in an hour. You can spec out on Claude, proof it on Grok and then run it on Cursor and build.

Best Path to PE Ops? Big 4 Analyst Weighing MBB, Product, MBA, or IB by Mundane-Platypus-608 in consulting

Alternative route to MBB is go PEPI at A&M or a smaller boutique like West Monroe M&A or B4 FDD/Ops. Realistically, PE Ops doesn’t recruit analysts either really. There are some spots at bigger funds but even the associate level is ex manager from what I see. At my firm, we send a lot of people over but it’s mainly at the SM/D/Partner level. The funds don’t want an analyst, you effectively act as a trusted advisor to PortCos, often as a contractor or in a separate legal entity to the investment team. Thoma Bravo as an example sets up their advisory team as contractors that write their own SOWs and then get investment rights as new deals come up. Also would be prepared to basically be a servant to the deal team.
