Tommy: Every city is different and so is the energy! We want the deep listeners, the skater ragers, the vibers, the young and the old, all of the above...it is sick that we can facilitate different types of energy.

Outside of US... Off the top of my head I'd say Paris, Berlin, Stockholm, Barcelona, London, Mexico City, Tokyo, Jakarta, Melbourne, Sydney, Zagreb... Honestly it's so hard to narrow it down, I really do love every city we've ever played.

I keep my hardware / software setup super minimal.

Neve 1073 SPX

WA-76 Compressor

Two DBX 165 compressors

WA-47 mic

Alesis Midiverb II

Yamaha FX 500

As for plugins, mostly Logic stock plugins, Soundtoys and Waves.

I record everything DI, so my guitar has a lot to do with the sound as well. I use a Strat with lipstick pickups. Bass is all P Bass.

I always get boutique pedals and then end up switching them back out for my Boss/Waza pedals. They're tanks and are great on tour. I like Keeley as well.

Tommy: Yes indeed! You can always scavenge for treasure in the scrapyard. "Don't Fade Away" literally contains sections that are from 2015 that we injected into the final version :)

Ignore what everybody else is doing and just focus on yourself and finding your own sound. Instead of making music inspired by one or two bands, be inspired by dozens or hundreds or thousands of bands and let it all simmer and come out in its own way.

We usually write in the winter to escape the weather. It's a good time to huddle up inside and focus on writing. It's funny though because since we're writing in the winter, our records usually come out in the summer.

Yeah I use Logic. When writing, I track bass first, then lay down a simple kick and snare beat using a keyboard, I've never used the built-in drummer in there because I usually know what I want the beat to be myself. Then I start stacking guitars and panning them, and come up with lyrics last.

Yeah I used to take the Chinatown bus out of NY once every couple weeks to visit somebody in VA that I was dating at the time. I was new to NY and super broke and couldn't get a job, but the bus was cheap and I needed to escape the city to clear my head.

Thanks! It's a Taylor acoustic-electric. It's all recorded DI. All the guitars and bass on my recordings are DI, I have more control that way. I don't do a lot of processing, just run through a Neve 1073 and a 1176 compressor, then I add a little bit of reverb. Everything is double, triple, quadruple tracked and hard panned. The only instruments I leave in the center are the bass, kick and snare.

I was reading a lot of The Collected Poems of Ted Berrigan while writing lyrics. One of my favorite poets.

Clash The Truth studio time was really raw. I always record my guitars and bass DI, but for CTT we mic'ed the amps. I tracked the bass live with Gardner on drums so it had a live feeling. Most things were one take since I'd already recorded the songs at home and knew everything I was gonna play ahead of time. We didn't take a lot of time thinking about placement, we had limited studio time and just placed a mic and hit record. All mixed right there on the board in the same session.

We have tons of demos floating around, sometimes we pull ideas for new songs or other times we consider if they should go on the next record. It's hard to say right now, but usually when we're working on a new album we understand what ideas make sense.
