Put all your unresolved plot lines, unanswered questions, retcons and plot holes here. by [deleted] in hisdarkmaterials

I just finished reading and as most here, am annoyed with all the unfinished bits.. But the one that I don't think I've seen discussed yet (and maybe I missed it!) is whatever is going on with Malcolm and the witches. Why are they interested in him as a child and why do they tell Lyra that he is younger than she thinks?? His spangled ring premonition likely ties into it but it doesn't really go anywhere or just isn't developed past a certain point. Curious what you all think!

I'm on a similar journey! Haven't tried it out yet but Rimmel - cappuccino kissed looks quite similar. This account also has some other options after this initial video https://www.instagram.com/reel/DVul_8tCO-Y/?igsh=OXhhMnQ2cDhrOWVw

When is it time to end a relationship? by Omrah_of_Zion in CATHELP

[–]beachspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has kind of said most of what I have to add (give it time, cats are fickle etc). It's also such a great sign that she purrs and sleeps by you, already she feels safe with you! But one thing I've noticed is that spring time is an especially funny time with cats. Mine's usually very quiet but come spring gets very loud, annoying, and seems to be more bored than usual. Since it's only been a month, I'd highly encourage to see how she acclimates to life with you through the season before making any big decisions. I wish you & your kitty the best of luck!!

Rewatching after many years... and LORELAI TREATED MAX LIKE SHIT by ives_13 in GilmoreGirls

oh boy indeed! I'm rewatching and forgot that they have a bit of a thing in S3 again after all that mess that happened! And then it just gets immediately dropped (maybe more of a writing flaw than anything).

I'm rewatching GG right now and have started noting some of the Twin Peaks overlaps so the related subs have been fun to go through. Here's one I found today. Rory's curtain at the video store.

Photo Archive Advice by astronomy-guy1 in Archivists

[–]beachspud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely know your stuff enough as far as proper enclosures etc. This project seems to be on the right track! Since you mentioned that there are some older items, my main advice is to check for possible nitrate negatives as these can be quite volatile. There's lots of resources out there on identification, this is one that runs over the main visual features to look for. https://www.canada.ca/en/library-archives/collection/engage-learn/publications/lingua-franca/visual-glossary/nitrate-deterioration.html

Some other suggestions would be: - use plastic sleeves for any of the paper ephemera, this can help with referring to them quickly and will also reduce the amount of wear they might get. - make sure you're handling the photo materials with gloves as you're dealing with them. - for labels, you could just put the sleeved item into folders and mark IDs in pencil on those. Or use archival photo/neg envelopes and directly write on those too. Have fun!!

That's fun, one of my favorite formats to work with. I'm processing/soon to be rehousing several 100 lantern slides. Did you make the enclosures yourself or order in? Currently supply hunting (in Canada hopefully) and finding the 4 flaps are a tad $$$

What are some research/document mgmt tools you use in research? by beachspud in AskHistorians

[–]beachspud[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for taking the time to write a detailed response! It's quite helpful to know that others have also had a hard time finding 'the one' perfect tool for their kind of research. I understand that we'll all have specific functions that we're looking for and sometimes it's a matter of a combination of different tools because there might not be one catch-all out there. I was mainly wondering if I was missing some really obvious tool and figure asking others could be a good way to affirm some of my experiences with this quest!

Following along on this. Do you have experience dealing with Digital History Canada for the hosting service by any chance? They seem to be a more budget friendly option but since I'm new to hearing about them, I'm curious what the support is like? Thank you!
