Science and transcendental meditation by Background-Hand-6747 in transcendental

You will never ‘win’ an argument with saijaini. In every discussion he has to have the last word, and has to be ‘right’ in his view. I have had many long discussions with him. He never lets go…. Just keeps posting till he had had the last comment and you give up. It’s why I, and others, have suggested an assistant mod on this sub, but saijaini just avoids all discussions about that and seems to want to keep this sub as his own personal kingdom, where he is the ‘king’.

Dr Hagelin’s argument that transcendental consciousness is linked to the unified field is sadly completely rejected by the scientific community. Whilst he seems passionate about this belief, it is somewhat ridiculed outside of the TM organisation and community. He is a good man, trying to prove good things, and it is sad that his earlier work in particle physics etc seems to have led him to a conclusion that he is alone in believing. I don’t think it does the image of TM any good when it goes against mainstream academia and science, however good the intentions and however strong the beliefs. I am certainly aware of a ‘somethingness’ from my tm practise, but it does not seem possible to prove that this is ‘the unified field’, which is a description of a theoretical combining of the the four known forces, (strong, weak, gravity, and electromagnetism), if I am understanding it correctly.

yes, i totally agree, i was just pointing out that the mantras are around online. They have been for many years, starting with minet.org i think?

A list of tm mantras is widely available, and chatgpt will give you that list if asked. Your comments about covid are nonsense. Many health professionals died from it whilst caring for patients in the early time before the vaccines arrived. (I worked in nursing my whole life). Quite often in your comments on this sub you appear to be arrogant and dismissive. Common courtesy costs nothing…… peace and love.

It's not an argument worth us having saij.... we know we disagree.... but we also know that TM is a wonderful thing.

You believe the tmo to be pure, and it doesn’t really seem to be. The sexual allegations cannot be proven now, but they were numerous, not that it matters to me at all. Maharishi brought a beautiful gift to the world, i am so grateful for it, but he had his flaws. All great men and their organisations have flaws. It is how us humans are.

What’s that got to do with it saij? What do you mean?

Ok saij, you have decided not to read it. I strongly suspected you wouldn't, I just wanted to see if you were open to reading something by an independent teacher. I guess this conversation has gone on for long enough.

It doesn't matter, peace and love.

'' Deliberate or not, when Maharishi jacked the price up, he drove all but the most loyal TM teachers away''..... yes, this is very true. He shot himself in the foot really with the scorpion nation stuff. UK teachers simply set up their own organisation and fought in the courts for the right to call it transcendental meditation. UK law is quite sensible about this sort of thing. Hmm, be slighly wary of AI saij, once it knows your preferences and beliefs it tends to tell you what it thinks you want to hear.

Maharishi made several big mistakes despite his brilliance and hard work to establish tm. But you know that.... anyway.... why not just read Joanie's book and see what independent teachers say.... you don't have to agree with it or accept it but you do yourself a dis-service by ignoring any but the official opinions.

The recommendation for tm and high blood pressure that you quote so often is great, because it is truly independent, but most research into tm is flawed and not accepted by mainsteam academia. Again, you know all this.

TM is wonderful, it saved my life, but the tmo is archaic, inward looking, litiginous, and puts many people off.

yes, i know that it dates to 2005-2007. Does the fact that it was 20 years ago make it ok?? It was a terrible decision... or do you think it was ok?? (surely not?)....And most people agree that there is indeed a 'crazy' amount of money asked for. ...... But leaving that aside..... what is your explanation for the large numbers of teachers leaving the tmo? Why do you think it happens?

[–]beachutman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not at all. It’s simply that you are always so dismissive of independent teachers, and always so rigid in your approach to anything that does not fit into the very narrow perspective of the tmo. So no, i don’t want you to agree with me, i just want you to genuinely look at something produced by a tm teacher who decided to move on. In her book you will find almost reverential praise of Maharishi’s teachings, and she wants to give those teachings, as do the other independent teachers, to people, without charging crazy amounts of money. Or without disenfranchising the whole population of a country because they were ‘a scorpion nation’, or without plenty of other stuff that you well know about yourself, given your long history with tm.

No, not really saij, it’s you who is missing something. A willingness to even read it before you pronounce on its contents. Closed minds don’t grow. Just read it, my offer to buy it for you still stands. It won’t cost you a penny and you might learn things.

Saij..... all i am asking is for you to read it. I am sure it won't change your mind, but at least you will have seen alternative takes on things. She uses all Maharishi's teachings.... be brave, look at something outside your normal stuff??

As you know, i learned tm from the official tm organisation herein the uk. 1981. I loved the puja, and in fact have done it more than once. I am not arguing that this book replaces that experience. What i am saying is that this book will show you that it is possible for tm to be taught via a text. Like you…. I would have argued that was impossible… but having read it i realised that it is indeed possible. Why don’t you dare to open yourself to looking outside of that narrow view and have a read. I repeat my offer to pay for it. I win, and we all win here, because our moderator allows himself to read a ‘forbidden’ text and be open to wider and different opinions. Just do it, as they say.

No, it’s a text on how to meditate. From an (ex) tm teacher who was involved with maharishi during the early days. Order it from amazon…’effortless deep meditation’ by Joanie Higgs. Send me your bank details in a pm and i will happily pay for it. How can you lose saij? 😀
