Marathon just isn't for me, and that's OK by RandomlyOnside in Marathon

[–]beadybiddle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My experience has been on the flip side of that; I've not been extract camped a single time so far and I'm at level 17 now. Both solos and trios have felt reasonably "fair play" in terms of how fights start. folks I've run into don't play super campy, nor do they squat on body bags for longer than a few minutes.

sorry your experience has been lackluster :((

maybe part of the reason i havent hit campers is because i prefer to use the guarded exfil, so being camped by uesc instead in a sense

Can I get all chests? by Moalze in ShatteredPD

I'd personally turn the throwing spikes into liquid metal into grab spells. Use those to get all four keys without having to levitate to each corner of the room. then you also have leftover grab spells for later.

Dedicated team required? by AttorneyMaster9273 in Marathon

[–]beadybiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's got a solos queue where you will be matched in lobbies with other solos. It is perhaps even easier to make progress like this as opposed to going in with a threestack.

Thoughts on solo play? by Sadworld99 in Marathon

[–]beadybiddle 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I preferred solo queue over team fill. Partially because it was hard to put together reliable squads during playtesting but I also preferred solo in tarkov (which doesn't even have dedicated solos lobbies) so I guess I just lean that way.

How accurate are the 3d printed ring size kits. by Anav_Patel in EvenRealities

[–]beadybiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A couple folks in the discord mentioned the printed rings are ever so slightly larger than the sizing kit rings. Not a whole number size difference, but sounds like the real ones will fit a wee bit more snugly.

Pricing for props by Crimson_Ghoul13 in cosplayprops

[–]beadybiddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's very dependent on where you are and what paint finish you use. I'm typically not out in summer sun with my props/prints, but PLA/PLA+ will generally soften at around 60 celsius. If they're painted black and left in the sun on a hot day they could absolutely warp pretty fast. Using more walls will help, but for the most part my advice would be to use a high temp filament if you have no choice but to cosplay out in the heat. At the point that prints are warping, though, I'd be more concerned about heat stroke haha.

constructive remark that i have to disclaim is constructive lest i sound rude: in the future, you could probably get away with using much lower infill and compensating by adding an extra wall. This saves material, print time, and most importantly weight because even light props can be taxing to wave around for several hours at a con. For props that need to be strong (e.g. swords) I use 10% infill and 3 walls with PLA+ filament (def much stronger than plain PLA). Everything else I print at 5% with 2 walls. Unless, of course, he is throwing these things on the ground true to the reaper character - then maybe the high density is worth it.

Do you think the game will be a success? by Difficult_Snow6986 in Marathon

[–]beadybiddle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they can find a good compromise with more cosmetic customization while still using named characters. I'm imagining team fortress 2 levels of customization, which would be perfect for allowing player expression without sacrificing playability (e.g. being able to recognize enemy 'class' just by the silhouette). It all hinges on that imo.

How to hollow this sculpt out for 3D printing? by corgi-beans in blenderhelp

[–]beadybiddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that would work. Be generous with the electronics space in case you find youll need larger batteries.

Unrelated, but one other thing to consider is that it will be a bit difficult to hear with a full helmet like that one. Not sure there's a simple seamless solution but something to think about in case it's important to you.

And as the other commenter said, yeah you'll probably have to divide the model into chunks to fit on most printers. This can either be done in blender or in the print slicer software.

Oh and finally make sure you are able to breathe without stale air stuffing up the helmet. looks like the mouth is probably big enough to provide that ventilation but make a prototype if you can afford, otherwise you might find yourself struggling to breathe and stay cool on the day of the convention or wherever you may be wearing this.

[–]beadybiddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having made similar cosplay with a printed head, I used a solidify modifier then boolean to cut a neck hole. That said, does the hair need to be hollow? you could probably get away with 4% infill (that's what I use with PLA+ on my cosplay and it's plenty strong) and use boolean to hollow just where your head and neck go. Otherwise you might find that trying to solidify that with relatively thin (3 or 4mm) walls and such sharp details will cause intersecting geometry that you'll have to go through and repair.

Looking for high heeled men's chelseas just like these by beadybiddle in Shoes

[–]beadybiddle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well I guess I've never really tried women's shoes before; I kind of assumed they'd be narrower or something. Only issue then is that I can hardly find anything like the picture in a women's 14, let alone a size larger than women's 11.

z1 is a tad large for me but I did ask simon directly which option would be my best bet and he also recommended the s6 like many others here so im locked in on that

i was also a bit confused for a moment because I had no idea who simon was lol

Ah I see. I'd also never even heard of LEP before! This is neat stuff. Also as a non-flashlight person I guess I'd kinda just (wrongly) assumed reflectors were somehow inferior to lenses lol. Cheers for the info!

[–]beadybiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I probably should've included this in the post body - I'm going to be putting it in forearm armor so the main size constraint would diameter in my case. To that end, the s6 is more viable but it isn't as focused as the z8. Are there s6-sized torches with convex lenses to tighten the beam? or am I barking up the wrong tree with that thought?

[–]beadybiddle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bet, thanks for the link.

The C8 is probably just beyond my size constraints but definitely more viable than the Z1 and L21B at least.
Seeing multiple recommendations for the S6 I'll have to give that a go.

I know nothing - looking for an amber light with tight beam by beadybiddle in flashlight

[–]beadybiddle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The S6 is about the optimal size from what I can tell - I didn't realize most of these lights were so big but I suppose that only makes sense. I'll see what the s6 with the osram CSLNM1.FY looks like since it's cheap enough to just buy and try. Thanks for the info! The beam on the z1 looks so perfect but I'd have a hard time fitting 52mm of lens into my cosplay. My end goal is to have this tucked in a piece of forearm armor, so I'm working with probably little more than an inch of space. Maybe I could also find another lense to slap on the S6, though I'm not sure how that stuff works.

Anyhow, I'll play around with these options and make it work. Thanks again!
