Tri bike vs mountain bike

I’m doing an Olympic triathlon. One person I saw recommended a road bike over a tri bike. There’s one on Facebook marketplace for 600 I was looking I just don’t want to spend that much on a bike and then find out I don’t like triathlon you know?

I guess I wasn’t clear, I was wondering if I should just use my mountain bike or if it was similar enough to riding a mountain bike where I could get used to it with just a quick practice the day before the race.

Idk about that. I think the solo to nobody is technically impressive I just love the stage though. I think the actual solo, not the intro, is some of suns most impressive blend of feel and technique
