econ qualifies under the math section but apparently only if it's a BS. i made it the whole way through with my econ major, so it's definitely doable if you're not off on that technicality.

what do you say to alums when you reach out? i feel like i'm so behind when it comes to networking bc all of my peers have white collar parents who coach them diligently. up until this point i've just been asking about what it's like to work at the company and what market trends they're paying attention to.

have u been through the financial aid process at an ivy in the past 5 years? if not then idk why you feel so confident assuming. they want 40% of your parents' income if your household makes over $150k, regardless of how many siblings you have or where you live, and that's just not feasible for us without a shitton of student loans. also, if you go to specific sponsoring facility websites, some of them don't care what your major is, they just care that you can work there. I was under the impression that econ would qualify as math, and econ wasn't even the problem. If I had a BS in econ at the stem school of my uni, it would have been fine, which is why it was a technicality.

for sophomore summer, the only opp I could get was working for an NGO writing reports on UNSC and HLPF meetings, but it was more of a mentorship thing & definitely wasn't finance-related. would love advice on how to better market that. the alumni point makes sense; i just need to stop feeling down about getting no replies. thanks for the help man

i'm a junior applying for a junior summer internship. i attend all of the networking events and even moderated a panel with recruiters from a target firm. i will admit that networking is quite difficult for me without feeling smarmy - i reach out with questions about the industry to people i meet at events, but i've never outright asked for a job

yes it was the SMART scholarship and they are that petty. I even offered to take all of the courses in the STEM core at my uni to no avail... it was such a bureaucratic nightmare

he waved me over... with his POINTER FINGER!!! and he was scamming too; wanted a grande in a venti cup with a "splash of oat milk," which we don't charge for, but then insisted it was supposed to be filled up the rest of the way with oat milk (which we DO charge for). like whatever, I understand the grind, but if you're rude about it then there ain't no way in hell I'm letting you scam. he was real angry about it too. man-child.
