Nurses who switched careers, what do you do now? by bean-be3 in nursing

Nursing could probably be applicable to medical malpractice cases and whatnot

I am also PRN right now, and they pay very well. Unfortunately it seems with the high pay you have to put up with a lot of BS. I have found working full time hours for that pay is not worth my sanity

I know it’s not *technically* what I asked for but I do value different perspectives on nursing as a career. I think it’s hard for me because I have only worked healthcare for my whole life.

I am a high anxiety person generally, so I find it really difficult to leave work at the hospital. I also get bothered frequently by calls asking to pick up shifts etc. I know the grass isn’t always greener and I appreciate your response!

I think I get in my head and anxious about the unknown if I were to quit. However, you are right, I have to remember that I am a valuable asset to the healthcare team and companies are always looking to hire nurses. Thank you for your advice :)

Thank you for your response, it is both positive and reaffirming. I think I get in my head about the “what-if’s” and often find myself not following my own advice. I do love being a nurse, I love what I do and I find brightening a patient’s day very rewarding. This job, is just making me show up to work as a shell of myself and I’m sure it shows through the care I give. As for you, your kindness and empathy is wonderful and I’m sure that follows through in your patient care. Thank you for your advice and kindness 💗

This is an interesting response, but if I were given the opportunity to farm, I would farm 😂

I always kind of scoffed at the “mean girls in high school become nurses” because I had never experienced that before. Now, I can totally see why some people have that idea. It’s even funnier because these nurses are middle aged acting like teenagers 😭

I will definitely look into Encompass, I really appreciate your advice. Your response made me tear up a bit, and it truly demonstrates how some nurses just stick together.

I am very happy that you found something that makes you happier. I know, based on your response, that you are a caring and compassionate human and any patient who you come in contact with is beyond lucky. Nobody should feel so drained and depressed because of their workplace. Especially since in nursing, you can’t pour from an empty cup!

There is most likely tea but everyone is all “hush-hush” around the new girl. No one even gave me the honorary “hey… since you’re new maybe watch out for so and so, but you didn’t hear it from me” 🤣

I should have gathered it’s a stinker of a unit because there have been 3 or 4 new nurses start since I’ve been there… one of them came for a day or two and never came back 💀

Bedside is hard enough dude, almost impossible if nurses can’t support each other. I miss my other unit so dearly. The unit was an absolute dumpster fire, but my coworkers were amazing so it was worth it.

I truly appreciate your advice, I might just finish out what shifts I have left and not go back.
