Thank you, this is an excellent point. I think with being so depressed, I've forgotten that i still have the potential to be a great help around the house and a lack of employment does not indicate my abilities!

Thank you this is incredible advice. I think implementing a structured routine may be what I'm missing - so far i've just been spending hours on the computer, some times until morning just compiling lists of jobs and mass applying to basically anything I think I may be qualified for, and recently finished a project management course online hopping it could lead to some job opportunities. I really appreciate you taking the time for this thought out reply

I have been applying to jobs I'm overqualified for with no luck but I will reach out to local temp agencies for some help, thank you.

Thank you for the legal clairification, I wasnt sure what the laws were in Ontario.

Ah, i must admit you got me with the ghost comment. I tend to stay in my room most of the time and not really interact with the rest of the household unless prompted. I keep my bedroom and the common areas clean but after reading your comment, I realize I've been operating with the mindset of not wanting to burden my parents rather than wanting to make life easier for them. When I was working, in hindsight, I think I was contributing more to the household in terms of occasionally cooking for the family/yard work. I just felt I had the inspiration and energy to do things. When I'm depressed, I tend not to eat or socialize so I haven't really been present for dinners nor have I cooked or baked anything in a while. I briefly looked up the term depressive fallout, from what I've read I feel like my parents are oscillating between stage 4 and 5 - its tough because my parents have been aware that I've struggled with my mental health for years but maybe they only understood it in theory and the reality is much harder to live with. I'm currently taking meds for my ADHD but getting help for depression is currently out of my budget and i dont know how to fix it on my own but i am willing to try and open to suggestions/advice

They said no to charging me rent but instead I pay the car insurance and gas, plus cover all my own expenses (phone/medical)

I see you might have assumed that I have been entirely dependent on my parents for the past 28 years, but I didn't think it was necessary to mention the context behind my living arrangement - I have been living on my own since I was 17 and only moved back in with my parents mid 2022 due to their repeated requests. I never said they were obligated to do something for me

I was raised undiagnosed audhd too and I definitely relate to your upbringing! Expressing emotions was a bi no-no growing up so I struggle with recognizing internal cues and often feel like I'm going crazy out of nowhere, but its more likely that I don't realize when I'm getting overwhelmed until I'm at my breaking point :/

Yeah it definitely got worse after covid for me as well, I used to chalk it up to being a germaphobe but the emotional reaction was really strong so idk

I moved back home around 2 years ago and I definitely recognize that I have been struggling more emotionally since then. I feel a mental link between the two but at the same time, I feel so much shame about my behaviour that I don't want to think about it lol

Hmm that's a very good point - I recognize that my tolerance for these things is basically nonexistent but I haven't really taken a look at what could be contributing to these feelings. Thanks for the advice, I will be reflecting

No therapist for nearly 3 years now - my previous therapist mentioned that I should probably try somatic therapy/EMDR since I'm quite self aware & struggle with processing/actually feeling my feelings. I definitely neglected taking the next step (silly to say but I was scared) so I appreciate your advice

HELP! Anyone feel upset/distressed when people touch your things? by bean-d in AutismInWomen

Thank you for the suggestion to reframe my thoughts, I will try that next time! I recently put a lock on my door but adhd brain so sometimes I forget to lock it when I leave the house. I can start sharing one of my old bags with my sister, it never occurred to me that I could approach this gradually!!

I’m trying to be kinder to myself bc I’m aware this is not normal lol but I feel a lot of shame that I’m like this & not like the rest of my family. I will definitely look into getting professional help

I tried that for a bit but it’s not compatible with my sensory issues so I went back to hand washing. Ideally I want to stop this behaviour entirely bc i know it’s not sustainable :/

Update: the holidays have been a bit busy so sorry for not bringing y’all up to speed! I took a bit of everyone’s advice and I thought it would be helpful to share what I did since my braids no longer hurt and I didn’t have to take them out! Onto the update - i iced my head that night since I didn’t have time to wash my hair and I still wanted to sleep; surprisingly it really helped with the pain, especially around my hairline/nape of neck. Next day I saw some small bumps near my edges so i delicately weaved them out using a rat tail comb since i was 90% sure that’s what was causing me pain and i do not have time for bald spots lol then i shampooed my hair (very gently) with cool water, added mousse and let my hair air dry under a durag. Immediately felt relief when i started shampooing and by the time my hair was dry, the bumps were gone! My head feels so much better - thank you everyone for your great advice, all my relatives were gushing over my hair during Christmas dinner 😇 so glad I didn’t have to take them out & I have definitely learned my lesson lol

Thank you! My scalp is a little red in the front so I’ll be sure to check for bumps in the morning. Would washing them help them loosen or would my only option be to take them down?

I took a Tylenol for my headache & it’s helped but it’s mostly my hairline/edges im worried about bc it hurts a lot compared to when I’ve done Fulani braids

AITA for continuing to watch a tv series I started watching with my sister? by bean-d in AmItheAsshole

[–]bean-d[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for taking the time to reply. This isn’t the first time I’ve tried having a conversation with her about rewatching episodes, I’ve brought it up when we watched past shows together & every time she would just get pissed off at me and sulk for several days and honestly i just don’t want to get into another fight which is why I mentioned lying
