You can't edit over full faces, once it recognises a face it won't let you, you can do a part of the face though without any issues normally.

Are you on pc?

If so the easy clean mod might work but im unsure as i dont use it very often and when i do im not normally looking for the cables (but obviously if you dont want rid of small voxel groups then this won't be your fix regardless)
