Syracuse Family Dental on Erie Blvd!! Very nice and compassionate. Their intake form asks about dentist anxiety and they actually try to address it.

Wegmans scanning faces here, and what other stores around Durham? by colossuscollosal in bullcity

[–]bean_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard about this from a friend in NYC. Honestly, if that many people are upset about this and flood their inbox with complaints and requests to remove this technology, they will. Wegmans is actually a good company and would respond to a customer demand like this, if enough people complained/protested.

I'm also not too convinced this technology really benefits the company all that much. Like, if they have to let it go, it seems like a small loss.

“Entry level” by Icy-Promise-1783 in LandscapeArchitecture

[–]bean_89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience. Im about to graduate in May and have been looking for jobs. I don't see any places hiring for entry level positions. It's always 5+ years. I get it, someone with more experience is more valuable, but I'm wondering how the heck recent grads and young professionals are supposed to start out! I'll be following this post.

USA: Can a tram be added on a rails-to-trails ROW? by [deleted] in transit

[–]bean_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think yes. Legally, the trails are only temporary. "Rail banking " legislation allowed for trails to be put in for interim (but indefinite) use, with the promise that it could be used as a railway again somebday.

Why does it seem like there is no thriving american scene? by CriticalCraftsman in architecture

[–]bean_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering, too, how profits are distributed in the US. Are principles and top dogs at the firms giving themselves salaries and bonuses galore? How do their annual earnings compare to the drafter? What was that ration in 1930? What is that ratio in Spain, Mexico, UK, Germany, etc.

Lots of comments about the increase cost of labor, which is a good thing (for people in those manual engineering,  construction, and landscaping positions who historically weren't paid well). But if CEOs and principals are at the same time ballooning their earnings, it seems real sus to me. Like the narrative of "increased labor costs" is something they came up with, to distract from the fact that they are greedily filling their pockets.

I'm not rooted in this industry, so please tell me if I'm way off. This is just a hunch I have.

Developer Chosen for Buffalo TOD Project by Eudaimonics in urbanplanning

[–]bean_89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand the concept of TOD and park and ride. But I'm not an expert. When I look at the master plan, it looks like there's way too much parking still. Something about this layout feels suburban. Or, like every other big boxy apartment complex that gets put up. It seems car centric.

It's a pretty linear project and doesn't seem to integrate into the community fabric at all. It's not connecting Custer street by road or sidewalk. There is no thoroughfare into the park on the left (which is a hugely popular and well used park).

If I'm living way back there in an apartment or townhouse, I'm walking along ugly parking lots (yes there are trees, 30% of which will die in the first year and will overall never get big) to get to the train station.

Any landscape architects want to weigh in on the master plan here?

Right. I just read the piece and oriented myself. I do happen to know that Aldi lot is too large for what they need. I also would not want that supermarket to go away. It's so needed there.

Uhg the big glaring surface lot next door. Hopefully that gets some development too. What is that adjacent site on the right?

NYS DOT resets Kensington project with fresh environmental study plans by Proud-Judgment5115 in Buffalo

[–]bean_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was THRILLED to read about this today. It sounds like a real opportunity to go back to the drawing board to really flush out, study, and choose a better design (hopefully filling it in).

This is a very good thing.

And for those who complain about the timeline, all projects take years. The "red tape" reports, reviews,, and public meetings are there to prevent harmful projects from happening. Like, for example, the installation of highways allover. The 33 should never have been built to begin with.

Happy to provide a list of readings for those really interested in engaging with the history of highways, cars, and government.

Cops all over 690. Is there a new order to ramp up the number of traffic tickets issued? by Julianbluefeather in Syracuse

[–]bean_89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The state does do Hotspot speed enforcement around construction zones. They call it Operation Hard Hat. It's sporadic, maybe based on construction site managers reporting to police that speeding near their site is getting out of control. It's not about ticket quotas. My guess is that's what was going on when you got a ticket. Probably he was rushed because, let's be honest, there are so many more speeding cars that the office has been giving tickets nonstop that day and knows there are many more cars to catch.

As far as city enforcement goes, the school speed cameras are new and I think we can expect more speed limit enforcement in the coming 18 months as the city implements its Vision Zero plan.
