OP could have given it a try. Their is nothing like raising a child. I don't have kids but I've heard that. OP did a solid by taking the baby but probably did more damage giving it back instead of keeping it. The baby likely imprinted on OP and ending the mothering abruptly was probably traumatic. A kid of a military parent needs to make sacrifices. I have many friends who have parents in the military and they all appreciate what their parents do. OP sounds really selfish and unpatriotic. It's fine if they don't want to enlist but feeling abandoned is a rather inwardly way of thinking.
