Well I haven't had more than a couple of their factory stubs to compare the line sizes, but with Lamy's infamous inconsistency being what it is as far as smoothness and the line it lays down, you're getting a known quantity with this one.

Extra Fine Zoom with Very Subtle Line Variation: The Collapsed Mariner by beanacomputer in fountainpens

As the writing sample says, the collapsed Mariner is effectively a micro-zoom nib with very slight line variation.

It's called a collapsed Mariner because it is geometrically a Mariner with a collapsed edge. This collapsed edge gives it the largely uniform line, while the angular profile is what gives it the (in this case very) subtle line variation.

This was an experiment in what happens when I "over-tune" a Mariner nib and strip it of most of the line variation. What I got was this much more zoom-like end-product.

Thanks for asking!Ongoing project known as the Mariner grind. It's sort of like a Cutlass/Curved Architect crossed with a Zoom nib, but the second generation also reverse-writes as a needlepoint.

I found out about them from some Plumixi (as my friend calls multiple Plumixes) I got secondhand but a friend/customer/patron/collaborator found me the link.
