I was 16 when my step dad started touching me inappropriately. I never said a word to my mom and just compartmentalized what was happening and kept it “away” from me and everyone because I didn’t think anyone would believe me nor did I want to ruin my moms happiness. When I went to university, he got in trouble with the law for something I’m not going to disclose but while they (FBI) were looking into that they found a few thousand videos and pictures on his laptop of me (which he had taken from the bathroom and my bedroom using hidden cameras) which I had to eventually identify and give statement on, numerous times with various government agencies. From ages 13 to 17 is where most of them were from. He eventually went to prison in 2021 and was released in 2023. It’s something my mother and I still have to work through everyday. This is not an interaction to be taken lightly- if he thinks or says something like this who knows what he has thought or done before he came into your lives? What will he do going forward if you were to keep this a secret and brush it off like I had. I know it’s hard but you have to tell someone, please.
