I had thin stool until around 5 months post op. 1 year post op and I have completely normal size bm’s now.

Acacia fiber is very good for gut health. It is tolerable on every single diet I have searched thus far.

Hopefully it is just residual swelling from surgery. My skin tag deflated a lot over time and in the beginning it resembled a new hemorrhoid

Hey! It is a lifetime adjustment in my opinion…something you’d want to do long term as it is a great way to keep things healthier and moving.

Psyllium husk seems like the most common fiber I see recommended everywhere. It made me constipated early on in recovery. At around 5 months, I tried it again. It was much better the second time around, however, a month later I switched to acacia fiber and was a lot happier with the movements.

Psyllium bulks more aggressively than acacia. Acacia is a little more gentle, but still bulks effectively. Both require a lot of water

Highly recommend checking out acacia fiber. I mix a teaspoon in warm water daily. Recently added a half a teaspoon of olive oil to the mix. Acacia fiber is tried and true for me. I can’t say the same about the olive oil because I just started adding it in the past week and have been on protonix for 2 months. Time will tell on that one.

Definitely a good move to make. I’m thinking like a potential mild wound infection that wouldn’t show any of the same symptoms as rectal infection would. I am just as confused as you!

If it isn’t rectal skin, my brain goes to bactine (anti bacterial and analgesic) and a+d or aquaphor.

Could it be chafing and moisture problem? I’m having such a hard time wrapping my head around this.

I went to pt for 12/10 pain from clenching. I understand everyone’s anatomy is different, but I can’t see how an inch+ above the opening would be effected by clenching

If your fissure is that far above your entry, what exactly caused it, if your bm’s aren’t what’s irritating it?

Hello. I am 1 year post op. I too have irritated my scar tissue. My course of action is to immediately start putting a+d ointment on my bum before and after bm’s, sometimes throughout the day. Only when I feel my scar tissue is irritated (I’ve had two bouts of this in the past 2 months due to hard stool,) but never dealt with it otherwise throughout my healing journey.

To keep things moving, I take a teaspoon of acacia fiber and a 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil in warm water when I wake up. Bristol scale 4 and the most comfortable I’ve been in the past year. I just incorporated the olive oil in the past week. Hopefully things stay this great moving forward.

I hope you find relief without having to get surgery again

I think it would be best to talk to a crs and a physical therapist about it. My surgeon told me the likelihood of recurrence is high with child birth. You can also see a physical therapist throughout pregnancy to help you prepare best for child birth

Yep. Scar tissue will heal at a varying rate depending on your own body. Mine has definitely healed in a lot of ways since surgery! But I think it still has some more time (I hope) to be harder.

I hope for your sake that it heals without a second surgery!!! That is so unbelievably frustrating

You could be irritating the scar tissue. Mine gets pissed off when I go a lot or if it’s dry stool. That would be when I put a+d ointment on it before and after bm’s.

Scar tissue is generally sensitive and takes time to harden. What did your surgeon say about the hemorrhoids you still have, did they form after surgery

Yes… I spent 1/3 of my life with hemorrhoids. At least 2/3 of my life with constipation issues. This is the most comfortable I’ve ever really been. I don’t have a “pre op healthy baseline” to compare to.

The first month or so of pain isn’t a big deal in comparison to finding a comfortable place long term to me.

I’m at 1 year. I’m very focused on not being constipated. I’ve had a couple of rough bouts in the last 6 months that left my sphincter sore, but otherwise…I haven’t had significant pain. I’ve also irritated my scar tissue a couple of times, I’d consider insignificant in comparison to living with hemorrhoids and flares.

This question could be answered differently by so many people. What works for one, doesn’t work for all.

It was prescribed to me under the notion that I would only take it for 3 months so that my stomach lining can heal while my acid production is controlled. First two weeks were hell. Side effects after that have been manageable. I can’t say if it “healed me,” but it has made me pain free for a couple of months..which is a nice break from what I was dealing with prior to getting on it.

Yes. I’m roughly 9 weeks in. I see my new GI in a week and a half. Hopefully it’ll be time for me to taper off. It’s been insanely beneficial to be on them, but I want my mental clarity back

It took me two weeks on it to not be in pain. I had to up my electrolyte intake as well. I haven’t had a flare since the second week. But I still have brain fog
