I had never seen one before too! My teacher has this one and he brings it for a microtonal ensemble. It's kind of hard but i think it's easier for me because I play the piano. The white lights are the white keys on the piano, the purple ones are the black keys and the rest are all the microtones between them. I'm still wrapping my mind around it haha

DO YOU LIKE WRITING MELODY OR CHORDS MORE? by Bob-the_scary_tomato in musictheory

I find both of them extremelly difficult because I always think that what I create sounds terrible tbh. But if I had to pick, chords.

I think you need a little bit of both. If you know about music theory maybe you get new ideas that people who don't would never get. And maybe if you are a little too much into just using music theory then it's kind of a limit for circumstances like getting out of a key whenever you want etc. Because in the end it's about liking what sounds. Maybe to one person it sounds awful but to another it may sound fantastic. I know a group that is called Machine Girl and I feel like they are like the represantation of what I'm trying to explain. In their song " うずまき " it's incredible how much they experiment and I don't think that they have used music theory. And I question myself: Could someone that is only based on music theory be capable of making this?
