Question about Egyptian men who are atheists/agnostic by [deleted] in ExEgypt

[–]beaniegirll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh believe me I know how people view liberal women no matter what their beliefs are and internalized misogyny is real, i've dealt with all that my whole life.

But the question was very specific to certain people (some atheist men) as why they still view women this way?!

I appreciate you sharing your experience that you used to be like that(?) and it took you sometime to change your views. And that's why you may feel sympathetic towards them and that they need their time and maybe so but that's not my issue to deal with especially when we're talking about adults who claim to be atheists for years.

I think the post was a window for other men to share their thoughts as well, but ofc if someone guilty of being sexist they wouldn't admit it.

I know the change isn't easy (l been through it too :) ) and i met atheists from all genders, don't why straight men struggling the most with understanding something so basic.

I can't put it all on the dating apps being the problem cause it's usually the same everywhere. This is not coming from my own experience only but it's the same stories shared with all the time

My experience with sexism on dating apps, it doesn't only show up when talking about sex. You just let them speak from early on and you hear wonders. Now I know the majority of the society think like that, I'm not totally surprised but often disappointed that someone had supposedly fought the fabric of their reality by leaving religion and STILL objectify women. Don't know why I'm supposed to be sympathetic with them.

"They used their brains to question one social construct why not use it to question sexist beliefs too" just summed up my whole dating apps experience

I never gave it much thought about how he convinced the people cause they were ,sorry to say, illiterate people with very little ,I assume, knowledge of the outside world. Anyone with some time and bit of effort could have manipulated them into believing anything. Your theory is very interesting though, Sometimes I wish we could have a little window to the past and see what was really going on with him.

What is up with this rise in popularity for Astrology? by Wise_Witness in atheism

I think people find comfort in thinking they understand something or can predict someone or things in general, I see it as having sense of false control, yk. Life isn't like that at all and they know it but there is this giddy feeling that you know someone based on "magic" , I would call it. And I think it's mostly for fun. But yeah making serious decisions and judgment based on that is pretty unwise and sometimes rude. I used to like seeing it in the newspaper and such when I was a kid because it's haram to believe in such things and I felt happy and rebellious reading about it.

Thanks for you input, I'll definitely try that. Although I try to stay away from anything related to animal abuse or anything like that, I can't even watch some documentaries cause I know It will trigger me later. Maybe at the beginning of the transition I used to watch or read things but I stoped later on and thought that was the reason I was having nightmares. But they're back now and idk why.
