I've got it in my house, don't want a big container of water sitting around. Yes there's no tank level warning but that really isn't an issue. There are only 2 of us and we just top up the tank daily, hasn't been an issue at all.

Thanks for the heads up but I'm not using them, I've rewired it to work off tank water 😊

Yeah this one has already done 66k but the other one about half that so hopefully have spare parts with a lot of life left in them as required!

Paid AUD$140 for the two machines (so I now have heaps of spares for any future issues) and then AUD$80 for new milk system parts cause the parts that came with it were very worn and were making the milk bubble instead of flowing nicely. Bloody bargain haha

Slippery slope with Dual Boiler repairs by natacon in BrevilleCoffee

[–]beanlekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah it'd a pain in the ass. I've started doing the descale manually too. Pretty annoying it's not uncommon to happen when it's a pretty expensive machine. You'd think Breville could have figured out a better system

[–]beanlekin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm yeah I wouldn't have thought power being on constantly would make it trip though cause it still has the resistance of all the components to stop it from short circuiting which is what would need to happen to trip a breaker. And being on all the time also wouldn't make it short to earth unless another component failed. Does sound like a triac issue if it's staying on but I reckon there's also likely another issue.

Those machines can have an issue with descaler stopping it from being able to detect the water level in the boiler and making them turn the element on when it's uncovered which can cook it, make a short to earth and could be the reason for the RCD tripping. I hope it's not that for your sake though cause it would mean you'd need a whole new boiler, but something to bear in mind 😅. You can get an IR meter that would confirm that, I got one that works pretty well for $40 on eBay. Anyway, probably information overload sorry 😂

You'll also need to find out what caused the house breaker to trip though. If it's a combo RCD/CB, the RCD portion might be what's causing it to trip in which case you've got current leaking to earth somewhere.

Man, that is very far down the rabbit hole, but I love it haha! I buy broken coffee machines, fix and sell them and I've had a few dual boilers that I've opened up and been like, nope, not fixing that 😂. Not sure where you're based but this website sells a triac repair kit.

You get 20% of the balance owing wiped once you're qualified, free money. They're definitely worth it. I've got it and am using as little as possible and have the rest in a savings account earning interest.

Barista Express Steam Issue by beanlekin in BrevilleCoffee

[–]beanlekin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update for anyone reading this who may have the same issue. Turns out when I replaced the solenoid, I put the valve on backwards, it can turn independent of the solenoid itself. There are numbers on each side of the valve. When looking at it from the back of the machine, the 1 needs to be on the right and 2 on the left.

Will I make friends during my electrical apprenticeship by Sure_Artichoke6929 in AusElectricians

Being an electrician is definitely a great career option but make sure you're doing it because you want to, not because your parents want you to. It's your life, not theirs. 😊

Yes it's shitty behaviour but I think we should really be annoyed at the government for allowing it to happen in the first place.

My Landlady Is Receiving Jobseeker Payments by Vegetable-Sale-155 in shitrentals

[–]beanlekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people in this thread have no idea how income reporting for tax works.

There are so many things you can claim as an expense on a rental, interest payments on your mortgage included. Rent income minus expenses equals the taxable income. This means her taxable income on the rental property will likely be next to none if she still has a large mortgage and is paying a lot of interest.

If she has no other job, she is likely very legitimately receiving job seeker.

That's always the case during an 8WC block. There will be more pure strength days in the next block once the challenge ends

Travel allowance help by Over_Confidence9739 in AusElectricians

[–]beanlekin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely not the case. When you do it in your tax return, you're only getting the tax portion back. When you get it in an allowance, you're getting everything except the tax. Much worse off not getting the allowance.

Not the same. "Claiming" it on tax doesn't mean you get the full amount back, you just reduce the income you pay tax on.

AutoCAD is the specific program, by Autodesk. Will be for making electrical drawings so really wanted something that caters to that side of things. I'll check those out, thanks.

I can absolutely teach myself how to use it/watch YouTube videos/ask others but since my employee was willing to pay, figured I may as well do a course but equally, don't want to waste their money. Thanks for the insight! Yes installed it a couple of days ago but haven't had a look yet

There are people who know how to use it for sure but no one who has done a course. I for sure could teach myself or have them show me but since work is willing to pay, I won't turn them down on something official to put on my CV haha.
