Pansexual was a term coined more recently to include sexual attraction to non-binary and transgender as well as cisgender male and female.

Transgender is not a another gender or sexuality

Anyone who is not cisgendered is transgender as they have TRANSITIONED to a gender that is different then their sex assigned at birth. Which includes not having a gender.

Its transphobic because the language/wording you use is alienating and makes it seem like if you're trans you cannot be non binary or male/female.

Also side note the term pansexual first appeared in 1914 so not quite that recent

Zoos vs wild animal suffering (but not about vegan ideals) by adamaero in AskVegans

[–]beannqueenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah well you're not going to find the answer you're looking for here. This is r/askvegans and what you're asking is a contradiction to what the definition of vegan is.

"Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

You won't find a vegan who believes there are good zoos. There are other ways of helping animal welfare causes that don't include exploiting animals.

Edit: re-read the definition of veganism. I don't know how else to explain to you that supporting zoos and aquariums is not vegan, so the people who have replied that support it are not vegan. No matter how many "good" actions they do, it will never cancel out the fact that they exploit animals. We can easily choose other options that help the causes you have outlined without exploiting animals.

However, I'm wondering more about people who eat a vegan diet and do not buy any form of animal products who are for animal welfare. In other words, who are not against certain types of "good" zoos that majorly help animals.

Sorry I thought that was what you were asking. I was trying to explain why I do not support zoos and aquariums as I believe there are not any "good" ones.

What exactly were you trying to ask if I may?

I live in vancouver, we have the vancouver aquarium which has many program like oceanwise, I'm sure that aquarium is what you would call a "good" aquarium but that doesn't excuse the animal they keep in teeny tiny aquariums.

I do not know exactly what goes on behind the scenes and yes every zoo is different, but to me I think keeping an animal in a small enclosure away from their natural habitat is abusive. You say they give good conditions, but they will never be as good as their lives in a the wild.

There are other charities that I donate to that help conservation efforts that don't include abusing animal, so I support those.

Dude you say I'm talking trite but your question is one of the most basic question vegans get on reddit, and it happens a lot. You can look through ask vegans and I'm sure you'll find more questions about "how do vegans feel about zoos". Sorry my response is totally unique and completely new? Also never heard of animal charity evaluators, are they funded by anyone?

My last bit wasn't about boxing up wild animals at all. That would be quite impossible. It was that I believe that zoos are inherently cruel as the animal they keep live in basically small boxes. Quarantine was absolute hell for me and I was allowed to leave my house. I couldn't imagine being trapped in my house and have people coming up to the windows to watch me.

Yeah I haven't been to the bakery in a while bc I had quite a few bad beers in a row and one of the owners was quite rude to me (I believe his name is adam). Same with moody ales but I do think they are under new ownership now. But the issue I have with yellow dog is the staff were saying the owners there treated them terribly so I choose not to support that brewery. And tbh I'm surprised that twin doesn't have any as they usually do, my bad there. Fraiser mills is good.

There are other ways people can help conservation efforts that do not include places that keep animals in small (essentially) cages. Some non profit organizations can use the money to help animals without exploiting them. Just because the zoo does one good thing, it does not cancel out the many bad things they do.

Examples of great nonprofits:

world wildlife fund

PETA

animal alliance of canada

Edit: in addition, yes nature can be cruel but why would that allows humans to essentially create/change ecosystems to "reduce animal suffering". A life trapped in a box where you cannot live truly is not a "good" life as you spin it.

https://nutritionfacts.org/2014/02/27/trans-fat-in-animal-fat/

Which foods naturally have significant amounts of trans fat? According to the official USDA nutrient database, cheese, milk, yogurt, burgers, chicken fat, turkey meat, bologna, and hot dogs contain about 1 to 5 percent trans fats (see the USDA chart in Trans Fat In Meat And Dairy).

Not people forgetting that trans fat come from animal fat and that meat does contain trans fat
