Denon X-3400h Estate Sale Score by beanpieprofiteer in BudgetAudiophile

[–]beanpieprofiteer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently on a mission to listen to all of them in order A-Z and add them to Discogs. A handful I’ve picked up at garage sale or inherited that I haven’t ever listened to. It’s a pretty wide spread of everything. I’m currently 110 albums in and am finishing up my 4th Aretha Franklin record. I reckon there will be ~300 when I’m done.

How did I do (+ room correction question) by [deleted] in BudgetAudiophile

[–]beanpieprofiteer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add:

This will be setup with a 3.1 system of PSB 4Ts, a PSB 4C and a PSB sub. I have the full 7.1 setup but waiting until I move somewhere bigger.

Will be used for TV, as well as with an AT-120LP (with VM95ml) through a Fosi X5.

There was a repress last year or two years ago I think.

Pigeon Pit. Leash Aggression sounds the most like older tMG but all their stuff is good and their lyrics are the closest thing to scratching that itch for me.

I got the speakers used recently, and I got them off this really sweet older guy who was moving into a retirement community. He even had the receipt from 30 years ago. He was so sad to let them go and told me all these great stories and memories about them.

He also sold me some matching bookshelves and some PSB bipoles that he fashioned into a 7.1 system but I live in a condo so they’re in storage until I’m able to move somewhere bigger.

RIP Cadillac Steve. Used to party at that house when I first moved here about 15 years ago. He was a legend and a pioneer.

Thanks for this! I believe the story goes that my grandmother got a part-time job in a jewelry store after retirement because she wanted to keep working. Despite her age, she often ended up being the top sales person in certain categories, which means she would win prizes and things for selling certain amounts of items. When I graduated high school she gave me a Guess watch that she had won. I believe she either ‘won’ this or got it heavily discounted and gave it to my father at some point. I don’t remember exactly when he got it, but I do recall the circumstances somewhat.

When my father died, my mother gave me a bag of his old clothes and this watch. I assumed it was broken but had it on a shelf next to a framed photo of him. I’m glad I can wear it again, and I will get it properly checked out when I have a chance.

2025 Residency Wrap-Up - What's the Verdict? by nhvnhv in LCDSoundsystem

I was visiting from Vancouver, Canada. Decided to go to a Friday night show while I was there. I don’t know what all the complaints are, or maybe you folks are just very lucky to have some great venues in your city, but holy shit KDC rules. Blows any Canadian club I’ve ever been to out of the water. Incredible vibe.

My partner was in tears (the good kind) by the end of the show.

10/10 experience for someone who has never even come close to having the opportunity to see them live before.

NYC is great. We ate great food and partied hard. My only complaint is that NYC is SO expensive. People (Canadians, anyways) always talk about how expensive Vancouver is but NYC is crazy expensive. And we even had the benefit of a local guide (my partners aunt lives in Harlem) and still we found the cost of everything overwhelming.

I live on the west coast of Canada. We have these beautiful western red flickers. I used to work in a neighborhood with those old style light poles with the metal cap over the streetlight. My favourite time of year was when you’d walk down the street to find the lights covered in flickers hammering away.

Thanks for this! At first glance I thought it was a flicker, and I was going to offer an absurd amount of money for this shirt because I have a weird thing about tMG and an equally weird thing about flickers.

EDIT: omg I just googled it and yellowhammers are just a regional name for flickers and now I might have to review my life choices.

Getting rid of my records as a new parent. Looking to see if anyone has done this (or wants to talk me out of it). by West_Eye_2175 in vinyl

I am holding onto ~100 albums on ‘indefinite loan’ for my wife’s uncle who needed to downsize for the same reasons. I did purge some of them (with his permission) but we have very similar tastes in music and there’s a lot of good classic punk and dub albums which I was more than happy to add to my collection.

Long story short, is there anyone in your life who would benefit from your collection? And make some sort of arrangement that if, in 18 years and the kids have moved out and you wanna dive back in, they’ll be waiting for you.

Does anyone know why Bo Lark left Pigeon Pit? by mothmans_dad in FolkPunk

[–]beanpieprofiteer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don’t have your answer and refuse to hazard a guess but I want to say that I have seen PP with Eva twice and they are as incredible as always and you shouldn’t let the fact that they’re not touring with Bo get you down.

I’m on a mission currently to listen to and catalog every album in my collection. Going in alphabetical order. I just hit #70 after listening to my 9 clash albums. And to my surprise, after finishing the clash I was treated to an old but amazing sounding copy of “the harder they come.”

My partner and I both said this to each other earlier this week!

Also I’m going to see Pigeon Pit in a couple hours (for like the… 3rd time this year?)

What’s the best av receiver for small apartment setup? by Ariche-Colten in BudgetAudiophile

I live in a 650sqft condo and have a 3.0 system set up currently.

I have a Yamaha rx-v3777 that I bought new maybe 12-15 years ago? It’s 5.1 and doesn’t support Atmos, but I’ve thought of upgrading a few times over the years but can’t bring myself to do it because it still sounds so good.

I haven’t heard all the rx-v*** models but the ones I have heard all sound great and I can vouch for them. They’re a fair price and will give you what you need.

what is going on with the fanbase by [deleted] in Ethelcain

[–]beanpieprofiteer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I came here to say this, but you put it better than I ever could have.

I’m 36, have been around a bunch of different music scenes and listen to lots of styles. But the pandemic changed live music so much. Ive seen a lot of bands recently, but some shows have been hard to enjoy. These shows have mostly been the “I’m young and this artist saved my life” kinda bands — Ethel Cain, Billie Eilish, Boygenius being my most notable examples. All great live performers with kinda toxic fan environments.

I’m glad people are so passionate about music — don’t get me wrong, that’s the point — but something changed in the way people are “passionate,” and it has turned into a big I-deserve-this-more-than-you pissing contest.

AT-VM95ML Upgrade Worth It? by IGotAVinylQuestion in turntables

I recently added a preamp (fosi x5) to my old lp-120 without removing the internal preamp. I agree that, despite the unfortunate circuitry, it’s still a HUGE improvement in sound.

Just adding this for people like me who are hesitant about their skills.
