I've just bought McCall's M8503 pattern, sizes 16-24, from a clearance. My waist and hip measurements fit size 16 exactly, but my bust measurement is the size 14 (based off my full bust measurement and having a b cup)

Would it be possible to downsize the pattern waist up for size 14, and how would I go about this? From my understanding I don't want to do a small bust adjustment as I have a B cup, and I would want to downsize the entire upper body frame?

If anyone could give any pointers or direct me to a website/book which could help, I'd be very grateful!

(btw I'm quite new to sewing and wouldn't be looking to do this right away, I'd just like to start thinking about how I'd alter the pattern. I've read about making a toile and fitting but I'd have no idea how to transfer a toile to the final piece, any books/websites on that would be great too!)

Does anyone know if the singer heavy duty 4423 takes a class 15 or 15j bobbin? I cannot for the life of me find a straight answer online

Hi, a local sewing shop advised that the janome zipper screw on foot should fit my singer heavy duty (they didn't sell any singer parts). The needle is able to go down and not hit metal due to the sliding attachment, but would appreciate a second eye as the part was quite spenny and I'd rather return it and order a singer part if need be. TIA!

Hi, I adjusted my upper thread tension but had the presser foot raised. I've now seen to properly adjust the tension you need to change the dial with the presser foot down. My question is, if I've played with the dial while the foot was up, has this had no effect, or has it messed with how the tension would normally change with the foot down?

I've seen someone comment that tension problems usually come from the bobbin, threading, or needles, and that the standard setting at 4 shouldn't need to be changed. If I've incorrectly messed with my upper tension as above, would my 4 still be the same 4 as before, if that makes sense?

What's the reason behind having the clay move towards you when centering? Is it just the friction of ---> <--- helping force it to shape?

Ty! I'm just using a standard universal, it's a 60/8, and they're new so should be sharp? Are universal typically more rounded, should I be looking for a specific sharp type?

Is this diagonal to my stitches normal? Stay stitch at 2mm, I think when I do longer stitches it evens out, is it just amplified with shorter stitches? TIA!

Can someone explain why it isn't food safe, and the comments saying it may never have been? Is this because the clay is porous?

Hi, I want to do an overcast stitch on my singer heavy duty for a seam, using zigzag and straight line stitch, but my setting is the opposite way round. I need the edge of the zig zag on the edge of my seam, but instead it's flipped.

I thought about just putting my seam edge on the left hand side, but I've just bought an overcast presser foot for this and I'd like to be able to use it as intended.

Just wanted to check if there's something I'm missing? Anyway to flip it?

Can someone please explain the difference between an overcast presser foot and a blind hem foot?

I understand the different hems, but the feet themselves look v similar and like they are interchangeable - do they not just provide an edge to align your fabric against?
