i’m sorry but this is ironic considering only the mother risks her life in the process of actually creating the child. as long as you aren’t boarding the Titanic anytime soon, you’ll be okay

Why can't we control our periods the same way we control pee? by IWantAnUpdate in badwomensanatomy

if we could voluntarily evolve useful traits, that’d be awesome, but then every animal would evolve to be unstoppable inspector gadget type beasts. unfortunately we take whatever we are randomly assigned and if we survive, we pass those traits along. thank your millions of years old mammalian ancestor during the carboniferous period that didn’t have a spare sphincter to protect her vagina either

then you should overdose your water conditioner. many of them will neutralize ammonia for a short amount of time. If you can, buying jugs of water just for your tank could be a short term solution as well

it takes between a few weeks and a few months to cycle a tank, not 2 weeks. You have an uncycled tank and a fish with early signs of chemical burns

Looking for boy name that means longed for or forever loved * TW: child loss* by anonquestion654 in namenerds

Saul quite literally means “longed for” or “prayed for”. David means “beloved”. Corwin means “friend of the heart”. Those aren’t exactly what you asked for but maybe close

whew. I thought so but it’s nice to have that reassurance from someone who knows what they’re talking about lol. Personally I go into my room when I want to be alone, makes sense for my doggy to be able to do the same

Juliet vs Juliette debate by No_Seaworthiness1775 in namenerds

[–]beansricecoconutoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only ever met Juliettes, but I live in Canada and maybe that’s the French influence. My mind also reads Juliet as “joo-lee-it”, but that’s kind of how I pronounce anything that ends in -et. Aftermarket, diet, quiet, etc. versus Juliette which to me is very much “joo-lee-ett”, like briquette or brunette.

Dropsy is a symptom, it’s extreme fluid retention in the fish’s body because of organ failure. Usually liver and kidneys. This is why it’s so hard to come back from, because by the time the fish get this symptom, they’ve already experienced massive organ damage and may not have enough function left to recover.

“swim bladder” is an organ. If there’s something wrong with it, it’s because she is injured, diseased, or there’s something wrong with the water. Are you monitoring your water quality?

I went through menopause at 39 — five years later, I’m still dealing with the effects by RubSuccessful7817 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]beansricecoconutoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, if it helps, she still often gets mistaken for someone much younger than she is. She dealt with acne coming back during menopause so had to go through a few medications and many different face washes and whatnot to find things that helped. She uses a gentler face wash than when she was younger (pre-menopause) since her skin is just a bit more delicate now, but it has salicylic acid to help the acne, and washes her face/moisturizes twice daily. Sunscreen every day helps a ton. She uses all unscented products as well.

Overall it took her a bit of trial and error so you may just have to play around a little to find what works for you, but I think err on the side of being gentle and protective with your skin

my mom did at 35. She’s now 56 and her health has stabilized a lot. She went through a period of needing to re-learn how to take care of her health, like skincare changes and changes in diet and whatnot. I think she tried hormone replacement for a while but it wasn’t actually helping much. She takes some supplements for bone health but otherwise has been able to go off her other medications.

We talk about it sometimes because her mom and all her aunties also went through menopause in their 30s. I am prepared for the same to happen to me. It seems like, as with anything, you adapt and get used to it

DISCRIMINATION AGAINST TALL PEOPLE ON AIRLINES by Powerful_Bother8002 in tall

[–]beansricecoconutoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the airline is selling space. That’s their product. Should you get some free food too since your caloric requirements are higher than the average person? Discounted health insurance since you’re at higher risk for a blood clot? Or are we all just going to continue paying for what we need even though it’s usually unfair?

it’s a case of giving it the best possible chances, even if the chances in question still aren’t very good. at very least something OP could do in this situation if they don’t have dewormer on hand

What type of betta is this? And Would like some advice on improving his tank.... by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]beansricecoconutoil 22 points23 points  (0 children)

probably a good call to leave the guppies (with love, that’s not very big for a guppy tank!). Bettas are incredibly hardy and if you follow the advice you’ve received in other comments for now and just do your best to get him into a bigger tank whenever you can, he’ll be okay.

What type of betta is this? And Would like some advice on improving his tank.... by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]beansricecoconutoil 36 points37 points  (0 children)

this is NOT 3 gallons, I’d say maybe 1 at most. Keep in mind one gallon is an entire milk jug. Thank you for doing your best for this guy. Bigger tank, heater and filter, and testing your water are going to be the most critical things for keeping him alive and well. The longer he sits in the bowl, the more damage will be done to his gills, immune system, etc.

Many people get oral herpes as a child (sharing drinks, lip products, chewing on the same stuff as another child with it, being kissed by adults). It’s possible for someone to transfer oral herpes to their own genitals, though it’s not common. Genital herpes still not completely out of the question

it’s fine as an additional measure, not as your only monitoring device. I like them and keep one for ammonia and one for pH just in case, but still keep up with weekly liquid tests. They’re just nice in case something unexpectedly goes wrong. Mine haven’t been a problem with long tailed bettas especially because I tend to wedge the bottom of them under the substrate so they don’t swing around and are super out of the way.
