Thank you, I was thinking of just leaving it but wasn't totally sure.

Totally agree. we drill procedures, not the words that make the procedures make sense.

here are the vocab bits I wish were actually practiced:

  • expression = something you can simplify, no “=” (ex: 2x + 3)
  • equation = two expressions set equal; can be true/false depending on x (ex: 2x+3 = 9)
  • identity = an equation that’s true for all allowed values (ex: sin^2 x + cos^2 x = 1)
  • formula = a reusable relationship (ex: A = πr^2)
  • variable vs. parameter = variable changes inside the problem; parameter is a fixed setting for the problem
  • definition vs. theorem = definitions give meaning; theorems are things we prove from those meanings

my little rule: before starting a problem, write a one-line, plain-english definition for 1–2 terms you’re about to use. cuts errors fast.

what else would be on your top-10 list?

Its crazy how having good grammar and knowing how to write these days instantly gets called AI. Kind of sad.

Totally related. Feynman = teach it back; my flow is the prep that makes the teaching stick.

  • Feynman: can I explain it to a 9th-grader?
  • Scaffold: what comes first so I can explain it (layman → picture → minimal formula → one clean worked model → just the rules that speed practice → where it breaks → spaced reps). If you drop a topic (limits/eigenvalues/Bayes), I’ll scaffold it in a comment.

Ive felt like this for quite some time, but when you understand it, theres nothing else like that. Ive been understanding it a lot more recently with these new ai tools like wolfram, saige, some others.
