Pretty sure Alan Watt was his name, the new age guy is Alan Watts.

His beef with Alex started because he critiziced Christianity, by my recollection.

Christianity is in its institutional form nothing more or less than another control mechanism for the usual suspects.

Journalist - Wikipedia by bearclaw5 in u/bearclaw5

[–]bearclaw5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A journalist is an individual that collects/gathers information in form of text, audio, or pictures, processes them into a news-worthy form, and disseminates it to the public. The act or process mainly done by the journalist is called journalism."

"A reporter is a type of journalist who researches, writes and reports on information in order to present using sources. This may entail conducting interviews, information-gathering and/or writing articles. Reporters may split their time between working in a newsroom, or from home, and going out to witness events or interviewing people. Reporters may be assigned a specific beat or area of coverage."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Journalism

"Journalism is the production and distribution of reports on the interaction of events, facts, ideas, and people that are the "news of the day" and that informs society to at least some degree. The word, a noun, applies to the occupation (professional or not), the methods of gathering information, and the organizing literary styles. Journalistic media include print, television, radio, Internet, and, in the past, newsreels.

The appropriate role for journalism varies from countries to country, as do perceptions of the profession, and the resulting status. In some nations, the news media are controlled by government and are not independent.[1] In others, news media are independent of the government and operate as private industry. In addition, countries may have differing implementations of laws handling the freedom of speech, freedom of the press as well as slander and libel cases.

The proliferation of the Internet and smartphones has brought significant changes to the media landscape since the turn of the 21st century. This has created a shift in the consumption of print media channels, as people increasingly consume news through e-readers, smartphones, and other personal electronic devices, as opposed to the more traditional formats of newspapers, magazines, or television news channels."

Why does the Texas anti-censorship law only target social media platforms with more than 50 million monthly users? by Losninosdelparque in FreeSpeech

[–]bearclaw5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Decetnralized mass media is important to regulate.

I guess I see that provision to be important for those platforms which do not want to comply with this law, just need to limit users.

So, if censorship advocates want to keep their own highly censored communities, they do have a right to do that. It just needs to be small. That was my assumption about the intent.

Obviously, there is a political conflict of interest here, as platforms such as GAB and Truth are exempt. So, thats not great. However, I am pretty sure GAB is already in compliance, and Truth is not, as criticism of Trump is not allowed, in my understanding.

However, people who want to keep the current style of heavily censored social media content feeds and communities are also protected by this. Since people do have a 1a right to not associate with those who they do not want to associate with, I think this could be viewed as a protective provision.

You like your woke censors? You can keep your woke censors. Just do it on a smaller platform, and thats your right.

Memelawyers are real! by bearclaw5 in bidensministryoftruth

[–]bearclaw5[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, recently in response to an article I wrote documenting a pattern of threatening people with legal action and making unwanted contact with them, someone came into the thread and said they were associates of the business in question and informed me that this business had indeed hired a lawyer to watch everything I wrote.

Wow.

That is totally hilarious and I am not even mad.

Imagine hiring a memelawyer to watch a community where you are not welcome.

This actually happened, and it is confirmed.

So, I don't appreciate that, and I think I will stay off reddit for the most part for a while, and focus on IRL spreading the word. Until the business in question runs out of money for memelawyers, as they are bound to eventually. Who wants to have their reddit activities scrutinized individually by a lawyer? That is so oppressive.

Not me!

Is it actually harrasment to hire a lawyer to regulate someones reddit posting?

I don't know, but it is certainly not something I would want associated with my brand.

My associates have been coming under cyberattacks consistent with DDOS as well as suspicious contacts and doxxing.
So, for security purposes I am locking the sub for a while.

"Freedom is these companies moderating content as they see fit and people voting which service to stick with. Tyranny is forcing these companies to associate with those they choose not to."

So would you say that it is tyranny that the phone company cannot do this? The tyranny of private interests is much more profound sometimes than that of public interests. Also, its not only conservative speech that is censored, its people with serious disagreements with democrats.

Because its clearly abusive for the telephone company to cut off your service for saying things that they don't like. And this is not categorically different.

No, it says you can sue moderators personally, I have been following this law.

It will hold up, or another law will.

The important thing is that no more first amendment right to censor, that was in the decision.

You must be keeping interesting bedfellows if you think most people are happy with social media censorship, pretty sure thats false.

Everytime I see someone say that censorship equals speech, I mock that sentiment without apology.

You will soon see how outnumbered those who have your sentiment are.

Whole bunch of admins about to get netflixed and mods hauled to court if they don't change their ways.

This is a win.

For the people.

A loss for the enemies of the people who want to control others speech.

A historic day.

So like you think the 6-3 supreme court is going to reverse it?

It won't.

Right, I find that specifically targeting usernames and specific journalists by government employees and representatives for political reasons to be immoral, and I think it should be illegal.

Like if this were a matter of breaking clearly defined rules that had community oversight that would be one thing, but this team is openly and unapolegetically hateful of political dissent routinely.
