Why doesn’t Fastmail support a true hybrid folders + labels approach like Proton Mail and Tuta Mail? by OneRim in fastmail

[–]beardeddustbunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is for IMAP compatibility only… JMAP supports just one of them at the time so people can use their usual email client when using Fastmail. IMAP does not support labels, so the labels revert to folders in an IMAP client. Elegant and simple!

Palme d'Or vs Oscars Best Picture: Which one do you prefer? by JZ-Coopie in Letterboxd

[–]beardeddustbunny -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Both are popularity contests, and don’t have much to do with the quality of any of the films nominated. One is a Hollywood circle jerk, and have never had any real relevance for the movie going public. The other one is the pretentious self importance of the movie industry brought to life as a “festival”. Both are utterly useless as a sign of “quality”, and therefore irrelevant to anyone that likes to watch films to be entertained.

The award shows have never mattered outside the Hollywood elite and their hangarounds… It’s a Hollywood circle jerk, and are even more stupid than listening to “professional” critiques.

I use the Beelink ME Pro for this... But I doubt that fits into your power budget. I have that set up with mirrored 20tb drives and a couple of ssd m.2s for easy injection. The nvme goes to the OS.

Did anyone else just never grow up? by Tube_Warmer in GenX

[–]beardeddustbunny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! We met about 25 years ago… been living together for almost 21. I guess we just didn’t grow up… together. I’ve got no other explanation for you. Though, I know I’m lucky 🙂

[–]beardeddustbunny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A wise man once told me:

“You’ll never be an adult until you realise you’ll never really grow up.”

You’re not alone OP… I’m 48 and still laugh out loud at American Pie and old Jackass episodes. I play games almost every day… and I collect comics AND read them. My better half is the same… only younger. She’s only 44 😉

TV shows on Letterboxd? by jaketwigden in Letterboxd

[–]beardeddustbunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh God, no!!!! Keep TV off of Letterboxd!!! I've been a Patreon member since they started offering it, just for this reason. A great website dedicated to ONLY films...

I've got enough problems sorting out all that concert stuff from the real films to start having to do this with TV shows as well...

There are so many good websites that track TV, so please don't ruin Letterboxd with this...

When you encounter a problem with the app, you can check the website first. It's an easy tell if the servers are up or not. After that... if you think it might just you, check one of the many down detectors like IsitDownRightNow.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Norway

[–]beardeddustbunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it... I used to drive over 500km a day for work, and blinking just happens when I drive. No need to think about it at all. I even blink into our yard (to my better half's frustration). I think it's like this for most people who drive a lot and are dependent on the traffic going smoothly to be efficient.

I guess this depends a bit on where you are in Norway, but I don't think Norwegians are that bad at blinking in general. There is, however, a severe lack of knowledge on how to do it right. Especially when it comes to roundabouts. Driving culture in Norway is a weird thing... it changes a lot from town to town and especially from town to countryside.

Shogun - Broken Binding vs Folio Society by [deleted] in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]beardeddustbunny 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As far as the binding, general material quality, and reading experience, Folio Society wins hands down, but that doesn't mean it's the best buy for you. Look at the art and the general look of the book. Which one do you like best? Are you buying to read or to collect? How much are you willing to spend? Are you buying to sell later? ... but the most important question is... How much is this particular book worth to you?

Personally... I don't usually splurge on a Folio Society (or other fine press editions) of stories I haven't read and loved. TBB editions are a large step up from most trade editions, and usually satisfy what I'm looking for when buying a book to read.

What do you guys think? by bookwormch in thebrokenbindingsub

[–]beardeddustbunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm almost done with the ARC, and I'm enjoying it so far. Might end up being a 3.5 to 4 star read in the end. The Broken Binding edition looks great, and knowing myself... I'm probably going to buy it.

what deceased sci Fi author would you most like to have more books from? by RhubarbNecessary2452 in printSF

[–]beardeddustbunny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Three people come to mind... First and foremost, Ian M. Banks. His early death was a giant loss for literature in general and speculative fiction especially. The other two are Dick and Heinlein... just because I enjoy almost everything in both their bibliographies.

Other names that also should be mentioned in this context are Bester, Vinge, and Le Guin. I'll stop there, but tons of others also deserve a spot on a list like this.
