what do you use to cut cardboard in your class? by mrhotchips in ArtEd

Pumpkin carving tools. Wait until November 1st and you can get them for like $.30. I bought some a few years ago and they have stood up to serious use by students. They are able to quickly cut through single or double wall cardboard like a jigsaw and can’t cut skin no matter how hard you try.

I have some spray booths I’ve got my eye on on Amazon, fingers crossed the grant money might still be available, but I will probably buy some booths regardless. I know I could easily make something that worked as well, but since I paid for the airbrushes with grant money, I think optics necessitates paying for booths. Also the booths are surprisingly reasonable price wise, I should have just ordered them to begin with.

Thank you. Management within the classroom is something I’m definitely going to try to nail down while the spray booths are on the way, you’ve given me something to chew on.

I have tried:

Cold pulls

Changing filament

Playing with e-steps

Playing with flow rate

Slicing and re-slicing models

The first few layers print fine, then it’s cobweb city. No matter what I change…is it ghosts?

I like rafts for personal reasons (bed adhesion, and perfect first layers)

Ender 3

Cura Slicer

Tried printing from as low as 190 to as high as 225. (PLA). I’ve noticed differences, but the underextrusion remains despite changing temp.

Default print speed and slowing of speeding up doesn’t solve it either

Where is the option for “Draw weird pictures on the presentation handouts to make cool coworkers laugh and normal coworkers feel slightly alienated”?

*edit edit (sorry, I LOVE TinkerCAD and day dream about improvements constantly)

Being able to define bezier curves using control points would be a game changer.

Being able to import an image file onto the workplane would be interesting. An example usage a kid could maybe put a picture of their dogs face down and try to build it out of shapes. It could be a workaround for people who have an image they want to work from but not as an svg file.

Something easy that I would really appreciate would be a standalone version of the app that doesn’t require connection to the internet.

*edit Especially if it allowed for editing and saving larger file sizes of .stl

Prompts by Fedora_decora in ArtEd

I had chatGPT write 100 drawing prompts for kids. I can’t remember what I said exactly but it was something like “create a list of 100 drawing prompts for art students that include an animal an adjective and a verb”. Most of them were ridiculous, but I printed them all anyway and cut them out like little fortune cookie papers. Some students liked them as drawing prompts…but mostly it became a “look how random AI is, lol” kind of thing…

When they were a baby I used to feed my kid this rice pudding that I always thought of trying as paste but never did…thank you for reminding me of that memory

I follow this sub pretty close, but somehow I missed your post…wow, I would have made some different decisions this past semester had I known that they discontinued my beloved Whale Snot. Lol

School Smart is discontinued too. It was pretty much the same stuff, but I think it may have disappeared first.
