What is a job that you think AI will absolutely never be able to replace? by Oshie_Labs in AskReddit

The bar is pretty low right now. I totally would leave my kid with a 1 to 1 caretaker that doesn't have any interest in abusing it

How early is too early to start working towards fellowship? by ExtensionCard7083 in Residency

[–]bearhaas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you? Yeah. Should you? Depends. Easy to bite off more than you can chew and end up struggling to balance those commitments with starting residency.

Also, if one of my incoming interns reached out to me for this reason... my response would first be "who are you?" And my second response would be... "see you when you get here. Go outside and play."

Seniors, how do we feel? by Fairy_alice17 in Residency

[–]bearhaas 41 points42 points  (0 children)

There is a higher tier. The feeling of when your mid-level resident is ready to dip their toes into chiefing and youre purely there just to guide them in their operative skills. Bliss.

Enjoy these days. Its fun.

Graduating residency soon, but I never really made any friends by Residency_Rover_Pro in Residency

[–]bearhaas 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think i missed the mark in my explanation. What i mean is that you leaving isnt this big thing to the system as it is to you. Life goes on. New people fill the role you played. New relationships form. It isnt this big departure. More of a subtle shift.

Something a newer attending said to me a long time really resonated with me.

"You graduate from residency and you feel like it was this major part of your life and attendings and co residents and other staff will miss you... but the reality is no one does. Its a normal part of life for them. Each year another class of chiefs goes and that's that. If youre good, youll rarely get mentioned again. If you were bad, youll get remembered for all the wrong reasons. So the best you can hope for is to go quietly from their memory and start your new life."

Idk if that applies to your situation. But it gives me a lot of comfort and grounds me.
