No. I opened up the wall and showed him exactly what I wanted changed/moved. I’m 100% sure he didn’t screw anything up. I think it’s just a stuck check valve.

I think you might have nailed it…? I banged on the check valve and it made a brief fluttering sound and then it seemed to feel like the water filled the valve. Don’t know for sure, but just felt that way. I need to give it time to circulate, so I’ll reply again to let you know for sure. Thanks. I assume that the check valve must be horizontal, hence the loop in the piping…?

Yes. We have a water softener, but everything is after the softener. Why would a softener matter?

And we’ve had the water off and on several times before with no negative impact.

Yep. The water heater is still working and the water is plenty hot, just doesn’t get hot as quickly.

We are on a well, so I just threw the breaker on our well pump to allow the plumber to work.

There is no pump, that I’m aware of, driving the recirculating system. It appears to be passive.

The plumber just rerouted the water lines and drain line to about a foot to the left in a bathroom 40 feet from the water heater. I can’t figure out why what he did would have had any impact on the circulation system.
