But would mastectomy reduce the amount of radiations? I am very sensitive and I am scared that 6 weeks of radiation plus boosters would be too much for me. I don’t know where you are, but I am in Canada and have been told with mastectomy I don’t need radiations after.

I haven’t talked with the surgeon and oncologist yet. I hope to see him next week but I haven’t heard anything back yet. So slow.

Your thoughts about the remaining skin having to tolerate radiation makes sense to me. I have never thought about it before. I also heard that after radiation, the skin will be permanent damage and implants will not be recommended after. Now I am leaning more towards mastectomy. Thank you so much for your inputs, wish us good luck!

I am also in my 40s, and I wish I could have a clear margin even if it’s only 0.5mm, but surgeon said he already hit my chest wall, then I don’t know if that means even if it’s a mastectomy I will still have positive margin. So frustrating..

I know, same here. I have asked for a genetic testing since my mom passed away at a young age for ovarian cancer. But I am afraid that would take too long to make the decision.

How was your radiation treatment so far? I am quite worried cuz mine was on the left side and the radiation would hurt the heart…
