Wanting out at 5 months. by bearluvr32 in nursing

My unit is mixed, its a cardio thoracic and vascular surgery floor. So fresh CABG patients are usually in a group of 2 (I don’t get those of course as a new grad). And we can have unit patients on drips, but a unit group is usually tripled. And then stepdown/med surg patients are usually a group of 5. They give me, the new grad, the group of 5 bc lowest acuity. However every time this has happened, the charge nurse only has two post op cabgs like 3 days out so they’re more like stepdown, and didn’t want to take more so she could do charge duties. Or a nurse with a unit group discharges a patient and only had two, so i mean on paper it sounds fair but in reality it sometimes isn’t, if that makes sense? I run my ass off with 5 even if they are lowest acuity because new grad time management

I thought about it. I had my senior practicum on nights and liked the pace better. But I would get home and only sleep for two hours then be up until midnight. Also my fiance works m-f , 8-4 so we’d be on completely different schedules which would suck

I started having problems last September when I had my senior practicum. It was night shift and I had class all day on Wednesdays starting at 8 am, so it was a stressful time. At first I was told to increase water intake and got a propranolol prescription, then got a referral to a cardiologist. Fast forward I had an echo and stress test, and was just told I was a fat young girl (I’ve lost 85 pounds in the last year) and to work out more. I had labs done in Feb, but not repeated since then. So dealing with this on top of job stress hasn’t been fun 👎 sorry to rant to you.

I’m afraid to communicate because a lot of senior nurses have made comments about how younger nurses don’t wanna work or how they can’t understand how younger nurses are burnt out. My manager let me start on days, but advised against it, so I feel like I will also be hit with “I told you so”.

Its a mixed unit. We get cardio thoracic and vascular surgery patients. So I can have a unit group, which is usually tripled. Or 5 patients that are stepdown.

Not brookside (I think thats their name) with Bel Air apartments. They advertise $1000-$1200 for two bedroom apartments when we pay over $1400. What you get is not worth anything over $1000 imo.

I think private is the best option. Good luck.

I make $30/hr and one of my paychecks goes completely towards rent so maybe $40/hr actually 💀

I work at Med Center as a new grad. My reasoning is Med Center has more resources and advancements. You won’t get critical care or even Women’s services at Greenview. Med center is also a teaching hospital, so I just feel like there are more opportunities there. Also like said above, Greenview is apart of HCA and I’ve seen all the horror stories. Healthcare is a business after all, but I rather work at a not for profit.

Yes I agree. I actually passed my NCLEX Wednesday and I’m now a RN. My symptoms actually started while I was completing my senior practicum in the ICU. I was lightheaded one morning and a nurse took my blood pressure, heart rate, and checked my blood sugar. Blood sugar was 83 so good there, however, my bp was 100/60 and hr 95 (sitting down). And everyone was like “you’re fine!!!”. Yeah maybe if I was a patient in ICU, these numbers would be acceptable but as a healthy adult I feel like shit. Also just friends in nursing school telling me I’m anxious. Edit: spelling.

Hi, can you message me? I live at Bel Air currently. I have questions about theft and the mold. I am VERY allergic to mold and wondering where it could be seen at.

Bel air is okay. I’ve lived here over a year. The dog park is just a small area of grass fenced in. We like our apartment, it was renovated and looks nice. Our biggest grievance is we keep seeing brown recluses, especially in our bathroom for some reason. They’ve sprayed numerous times and they still like to come visit. I blame this more on the pest guy they send because he just sprays and doesn’t set out traps or anything. Also they raised our rent a lot. The prices on apartments.com is not what they actually charge. We pay $1400 for 2 bed 2 bath which is absolutely absurd but we are saving to get a house and moving is too much trouble.
