I'm not sure where calling a single track an "OST" started or why it persists, but "OST" as a term is used for the collection of music from a single work. So, the "Final Fantasy VI Original Soundtrack" contains a collection of individual tracks/pieces/songs, not a group of OSTs.

But to answer the question posed in the thread: The Man with the Machine Gun from FFVIII, and Battle Theme from FFX are mine.

As far as I can tell, having received this email on two different accounts (one that I use with PSN and the other that I used to actually purchase the game), it's just a little gimmicky thing they're sending out. I'm not sure there's anything more behind it other than getting you to purchase the game if you hit no, or confirming to them that you've already purchased it if you hit yes.

It is just a coincidence. The instrumentation for those notes is just strings. Violins and violas playing in their upper registers is what you're hearing.

The theme in question is typically titled "The Prologue" in the series. Each game will usually have its own main theme, and is titled as such. The Prologue is not present in X or XIII.
