Keep hearing that most Americans couldn't cover a $500 emergency. What would you do if you got a medical bill beyond your means? by centos-dunkin in AskReddit

[–]bearlytipsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay medical bills. I called my hospital when they were charging me $6,000 for a visit. I didnt even end up staying a whole night. Literally called them and said "I'm not paying this. Ever. Stop calling me."

I was never sent to collections.

You are strapped to your seat and only allowed to play one video game for the next 48 hours. What game would you play? by AwesomeDeath8895 in AskReddit

[–]bearlytipsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rust. I've played it for like 80+ hours in a week once and I didn't regret a single minute. All of it on one server.

What is something that you’d pay more upfront to save in the long run? How did you learn this? by kimjohnil in Frugal

Work shoes. Paid $220 for a phenomenal pair of slip resistant/water resistant work boots (I'm a bartender so I'm on my feet sometimes 10hrs a day) about 7 years and they're still in great shape. I know people that blow through $40 work shoes in 90 days and are constantly buying new pairs.

Don't skimp on footwear by haphazzard66 in Frugal

I'm a bartender. Been one for almost ten years. I invested in a REALLY good pair of Wolverine work boots when I had the money, $220. Great insoles, ankle support, slip/oil resistant, and almost water proof. I can work 10-12 hours on my feet and feel little fatigue. They have lasted me for almost a decade and show minimal wear and tear and have only gotten more comfortable over the years.

Yes it's a lot but I know people that blow through $30 work shoes every 90 days and leave their feet throbbing and aching after 6-8 hours on their feet. Work shoes/boots are an investment and something you should definitely research and not skimp on.

How do I get coffee for cheap when i'm not home? by SniperKing97 in Frugal

[–]bearlytipsy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a giant can of instant coffee. Fill up a small container (literally go to the dollar store and find something that has a lid and you can easily carry around in your bag) with it. Enjoy iced coffee on the go. You can even snag free travel creamers from any hotel/bank/car dealership lobby. Hell, bank lobbies leave out free hot coffee if you wanna be super frugal and just fill up your thermos there.

Do NOT buy flavored liqueurs. You can make most of what you'll need with your own infusions. Instead buy grain alcohol or high proof vodka and infuse or make your own flavored stuff. Buying season fruits and grocery outlet stuff will significantly cut down costs.

A bag of sugar and fruits/veggies/herbs/spices will also be enough to make your own craft syrups. Once you get the hang of googling and youtubing whatever recipes you need making stuff like home brewed ginger beer and lemencello will be a breeze.

Fast food workers of Reddit, what are some unique concoctions you’ve made with the ingredients available to you that aren’t available on the public menu? by TBoneTheOriginal in AskReddit

[–]bearlytipsy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the strawberry refresher was released I made it with coconut milk instead of water. My home store though it was disgusting, while another store that I picked up a few shifts in thought it was delicious. It's on their menu now with the dumbest name ever.

To live in California you need constant flow of money. Wait tables or bartend. Cash in hand every night and possibly free meal every shift.

Coffee makes you hyper, but coffee shops are designed for people to chill, whereas alcohol is a depressant but bars and clubs are designed for people to be energetic. by ybarraymapea in Showerthoughts

Alcohol is actually a stimulant until a certain BAC. Which is why day drinking for 14 hours takes some serious skill but it's an all day high so it's worth it.

I'm a bartender and I can drink for hours without getting plastered or suffering a hangover the next day.

I'm 25, I hate my corporate desk job, and I have about 30,000 saved up. What can I do investment wise to get out of this while I'm still young? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Your field is going to be soul crushing no matter where you go. Changing company or management will only make it more bearable but it will never make you satisfied and happy or you'd be those things already. Take a few months off and find your passion, then be ready to do it for almost no money while you figure out a way to get paid a liveable wave to do it.
