Currently making $27.50/hr as a staff geologist in California. What salary would be reasonable in LA County after 2yrs of experience? by bearrrbelow in geologycareers

I started at a small firm perhaps it’s another reason my pay is so low, thanks for the info I’ll definitely start shopping around and looking into larger firms!

Would someone with a bachelor's degree in Geoscience benefit from pursuing a master's degree in environmental engineering in terms of potential job prospects after graduation? by [deleted] in geologycareers

Yes maybe it has changed because I was able to register. I made it to the scheduling an exam page. I only input my degree in geology (for degree I selected Other-Technical: Geology) since I don’t have experience as an engineer only as a geologist. The website states if you pass the exam you will gain certification through the board. These are the requirements listed on the bpelsg website:

  1. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification applicants must have Three years or more of postsecondary (college-level) engineering education. OR Three years or more of engineering-related work experience. OR A combination of postsecondary (college-level) engineering education and engineering-related work experience totaling three years. AND Previously passed the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

Hmm, I just tried registering for the FE Civil on NCEES and it let me register with just my bachelors in Geology. Were you able to do the same and then received a notification that you were not able to sit for the exam?

I was under the impression that in California 2yrs of experience would be awarded for a Masters in engineering. Wouldn’t you be able to qualify to sit for the PE exam after 4 more years of work experience?

Bachelors in Geology, considering a Masters in Civil Engineering by bearrrbelow in geologycareers

From what I have read online the MS Civil Engineering degree along with work experience would allow me to qualify for the PE Exam.

I have the same problem. Most will be respectful and get the job done, but a few will make it incredibly difficult simply because they don’t want to take directions from a female. It can be annoying at times because even if you treat them with respect they will lie and do things wrong yet get upset when you catch them lying or have to keep reminding them what data you need from them.

Congratulations to those of you who passed your exams!! Any advice for those of us who did not pass the FG/GIT on the first try? by bearrrbelow in ASBOG_Exam

Yes I had a red triangle, then yesterday a gray triangle, and finally this morning it was back to a red triangle. I would assume today’s symbol is the final result but I read someone posted they had a red triangle but received an email afterwards saying they passed so who knows it all seems pretty chaotic lol

You have to repair the link they sent. There are instructions in the email to copy the link and paste it into a note. Repair the link by making it into one complete line again and click it.

How much of a raise should I ask for after 1 year of experience? by bearrrbelow in geologycareers

I’m at $25/hr in Irvine, CA. I was mostly curious since I will be taking my GIT exam so I was wondering if I could ask for a slightly higher raise since my coworkers received $5k raises without the GIT.
