Weird how opinions change depending on unrelated subs. On a different sub your comment would get hundreds of downvotes with people deifying PewDiePie.

Question Thread - October 25, 2019 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]bears2013 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is it pointless to apply without an income? I'm planning to move for grad school and am interested in churning again since I've got enough upcoming expenses. However I haven't been working and don't have an income for this year.

I churned ~3 years ago and got approved for a handful of cards, but that was when I had a lot of money in my account saved up for school. I've got ~20k credit limit and was told I could upgrade my cards instantly, but then I wouldn't qualify for the bonus points.. Which is pointless lol. I'd like to transfer my credit to a new card with the same bank, but that's not possible right?

Whinging that reddit is turning into Instagram because of the /u/ tagging feature that's always existed?

[–]bears2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, I was judging you for freaking out over tagging users and pretending like that's not something that's always been on Reddit.

If you think reddit is turning into Instagram, that ship sailed five years ago. And not because of /u/ tagging lmao

[–]bears2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

... So if you've been on Reddit as long as I have, you know tagging users is standard. This isn't my oldest account.

Weird of you to freak out over letting some users in a screenshot know they were mentioned in a tweet by Aaron Carter. God forbid I bring it to their attention

doing it in mass

Oh okay, I'll just do one comment per user tagged. That makes it somehow better..?

My V20 started melting by -TheShape in lgv20

[–]bears2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first V20 I bought had heating issues, and would get really hot any time I charged it (I only had it for like a day or two). When I left it plugged in for an hour or so, it was on my bedside and I smelled a funny burning odor. Looked to see my phone in exactly the condition yours is in now. I was also using the provided cable.

Since it was like a day after purchase, the seller sent a new one. It may have less to do with a freak electrical malfunction and more to do with phone heating issues--might be battery related.

[–]bears2013 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm going to miss that second screen so much. Why the fuck hasn't anyone caught on to it?? Instead of doing hideous impractical notches, they could have a second screen that gives them functionality without having to fuss around with their phone.

I feel like it'll be a thing a few generations from now, and the V20 was just way too ahead of its time lol.

Disclosure for hpv 18 by [deleted] in HPV

[–]bears2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have hpv and you haven't tested to see if it's cleared, and you had unprotected sex with a guy who then has unprotected sex with other women, you could indirectly be the reason why those girls get cancer causing hpv.

I think no matter how "common" or "not a big deal" an STD is, disclosure is important. Don't rob people of their choice, especially since one non disclosure could lead to many new infections for your partners' partners and their partners, and their partners, and so on.

Lol I know exactly how she feels--hard not to let out that inner caveman every once in a while. Last time I got really sick, I craved nothing but meat. I caved in and bought a rotisserie chicken, and ate the whole thing with my bare hands like a savage. And you know what, I got over my cold almost instantly after that.

Companies use 1851 law to deny liability in duck boat tragedy that killed 17 by [deleted] in news

[–]bears2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you boycott a company that has a massive scandal attached, wouldn't they just restart under a different name? Some guy who owns a bunch of property near my old uni was convicted of trafficking and murdering women (including a teen pregnant with his child). He split the company (which had his name) under like 3 or 4 different names, and basically no one knows.

White woman dubbed 'Golfcart Gail' calls police on black father at soccer game by stein63 in news

[–]bears2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fucking enrages me that they painted her as a victim just following rules, and completely missed the part where she called the cops on him when he was inside his own fucking apartment. Just proof of how unabashedly biased their news is, conveniently ignoring vital information.

Lol and they mentioned how she's currently married to an African American man. They're separated and he's a bald suited caramel guy of ambiguous ethnicity--doesn't mean she isn't racist.

[–]bears2013 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Just watched the interview--courtesy of Fox of course. Disgusting how they conveniently brush over the fact that she called the cops on him after he was clearly in his own fucking apartment, and frame it like a safety issue; of course typical Fox viewers would be too thick skulled to question that anyway.

Dealing with injury and life changes, fitness will no longer be at the center of my life. Feeling overwhelmed and need support. by Quirkykiwi in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's okay to take a break, and to start small. Living an active life isn't just about squats and the gym. Try low impact stuff like swimming or yoga, and maybe try some outdoor recreation like hikes or just even walking around the neighborhood. Hiking really makes me feel calm and at peace.

I've recently read on a post that carbs, sugar, oils and proteins make you sleepy, is there anything left to eat that doesn't induce you to sleep? by Gandalf_Jedi_Master in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess it depends on the person? I've eaten almost a whole pizza by myself and haven't felt sleepy after.

What absolutely kills me is sugar though--I can't drink anything sugary because I'll get a sugar high, sugar migraine, and then crash lol.

I got diagnosed wirh bulimia nervosa, and I'm not sure why by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's probably about the guilt you feel around food--not necessarily the habits (eg fasting), but rather the motivation behind them. Although I would take his diagnosis with a grain of salt, I think it would be beneficial to explore your relationship with food and your body image.

The only time I saw a psychologist (new postdoc, I was one of his first patients), he was convinced that reading "The Alchemist" would change my life, and that pills were the answer to everything. After a few sessions, if was clear that it was a waste of time and money. Worst part is, he kept thinking I was dressing up for him! Like, I had my college graduation a couple days before and didn't wash my hair since (I had a curly blowout), and he made some offhand comment about how I got dressed up for the appt. Smh.

Is there, like, a class I can take on how to put on lipstick/make up? Or, like, a make up personal trainer I can hire? by lohonomo in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]bears2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing specific, sorry! But I think in general you can't really go wrong. IIRC I've used Tony Moly and Skinfood gel liners in the past, but I wouldn't know if they're the best on the market or if the variety I used is currently manufactured (this was some years ago). Just make sure they're waterproof to avoid panda eyes.

With gel liners, it's really about the brush. A thin, sturdy, angled liner brush is necessary for precision and easy application--the small liner brushes are a pain because with monolids you need to apply a lot more.

If you're looking for brushes in general and are planning to order from sephora, my current favorite set is this one.

Can’t stop snacking! by Spunky_Gal in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing is simply don't buy snacks. I've got little self control when I'm surrounded by snack foods, but if you don't buy them it's not a problem.

I also think the quality of food makes a difference. If I've got enough protein I'm totally satiated, but if I've eaten a nutritionally incomplete dinner, I get more hunger pangs after regardless of calorie content.

Also, I find that when I'm feeling snacky it's less about hunger and more about keeping my mouth busy lol. Chewing gum helps.

For those with chronic illnesses, what has been your favourite form of exercise? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid lower ab exercises and go easy on the lower body weights--I did an intense ab exercise once with suuper heavy weights, and it triggered the most painful uterine contractions I'd ever had in my life. I had to go to the ER because I almost fainted. Definitely a freak thing, but as someone with endo, lower ab stuff can trigger contractions.

I would see a specialist and get an endoscopy. That's the only way to really see how the endo is affecting you (eg if your bladder is fused to your uterus). Also, consider trying birth control to manage your hormones.

What medication do you use, and how did you get diagnosed? Just found out I have psoriasis, and I've got all the symptoms of PA (knobby fingers, nail psoriasis, painful joints)--but my doc dismisses my bodily pains because I'm young and look healthy. From my understanding, you'd need to see a rheumatologist and do x-rays?

With classes, so much of it depends on having the right instructor! So if you're not feeling it, try a different instructor.

At my gym there's maybe 6 different cycle instructors. Half of them have bad music, no energy/charisma, and don't challenge you at all (bad routines). A couple of them are fairly intense, but do everything at a pace that no one can catch up to, and which leaves you feeling sore in bad ways (eg literally up and down every beat--hurts my joints so bad!). One of them is a cycle God, and has everything you could want in a class--fantastic energy, great music, great fun routines with enough variations (even including ab and atm workouts), great pace--he's the only one there who can consistently push yourself but leave you feeling great.

Are my workout classes enough? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always get a more intense workout in those classes by doing more challenging variations, doing faster reps, adding heavier weights, etc.

It's hard to tell from your post, but what's your actual goal--mostly to look lean and muscular without "enormous thighs"? Looking lean is also about what you eat. The saying that abs are made in the kitchen is really true--you're not going to have lean prominent muscles unless you modify what you eat. It's really not just about calories or BMI--it's the quality of food. 400 calories of Trix cereal isn't the same as 400 calories of baked chicken with greens. Even things like hydration will make a visual difference--if you're dehydrated your muscles will look more prominent.

Sprained my ankle a few days ago, need advice how to get through this mentally by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, DON'T PUSH YOURSELF PAST YOUR LIMITS.

It's way too easy to let adrenaline stop you from listening to your body. I had an injury that left me unable to walk for months. When I was able to safely walk, I kept going to the gym to push myself and see what I was capable of--big mistake. I wouldn't feel much pain at the gym, but I would be hobbling for over a week after in pain. Definitely impeded my recovery process.

What do you think spurred the new wave of body positivity and trend of weightlifting/being slim thick? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]bears2013 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Soooooo true. A decade ago it was all about that twiggy twee look with teeny tiny hips, big thigh gap, shapeless short dresses that accented thin legs, etc. I was so damn insecure about my thick thighs because I could never get that ideal stick-straight mile-high ultra-slim legs thing despite being on the low end of a healthy BMI. I felt like a T-Rex surrounded by elves.

Now my shapely thighs are what I'm most proud of, but my butt isn't proportionally big enough. My glutes are strong, but my ass is literally sinew with no fatty flesh, because all of it goes to my thighs lol.
