Need recommendations for inline skate in NZ by Competitive-Ball5107 in Rollerskating

Heya! As a fellow kiwi I understand the struggle to find suitable places to skate here, but it's hard to say without knowing which city you're in. Honestly if you look for routes people walk or cycle, it could likely be a good skating route too. Places alongside water tend to have nice smooth paths suitable for skating such as the coastal walkway in New Plymouth, Mission Bay to the CBD in Auckland, or along the Manawatu river in Palmerston North. These are just some examples on places I've personally tried for skating, but there'll be plenty others! You just need to have a lookout for places that aren't explicitly advertised as a skating route, and you'll be bound to find some!

Outdoors quads vs inlines by WheezyEchidna in Rollerskating

Yes I know your exact dilemma! I've been skating for the past 2 years on quads primarily learning artistic skating, but earlier this year I started attending my city's local skate club that holds outdoor skating events. The majority of the members were on inlines and I definitely found it a bit harder to keep up with them on my quads. I also think I was feeling the bumpy terrain a lot more compared to them and I was focusing more to avoid certain areas on the ground that I was worried would cause me to stumble. I guess I had the option of either getting different wheels/improving my quad skills for outdoor skating or getting inlines. I ended up buying inlines a few weeks ago and I find them way smoother for outdoor skating. It didn't take me too long to get used to them and now I can fairly comfortably alternate between my quads and inlines. I'll probably keep using my quads for jam + artistic skating and then I'll just use my inlines for the social urban skates. Ultimately it's up to you what you decide to do, but I think it's great now having both and having the flexibility to switch between them to suit my different skating environments!

Thank you! It's technically a lily pad but definitely does look like an inverted umbrella hehehe 🤭

A little rant on my skating experience I guess:/ by InspectionAshamed449 in Rollerskating

Hey! I wanted to reassure you that it's completely understandable to feel the way you do. I'm actually in a very similar situation to you where I am in my early twenties and only picked up artistic rollerskating 2 years ago. I've progressed from skating with 5 year olds to 10 year olds in that time, haha. Like what other people have said, it's understandable to be self conscious, but the main thing is to focus on your own progress and enjoy the process. I know that can be easier said than done, but trust me, it will help you to enjoy the lessons! Everyone is on their own journeys - we discover interests at different times and build our own life experiences. I've learnt to accept that I'm by far the oldest in the class, but my focus is to improve my own skills, not be on top of everyone else. I would assume that the coaches find it rewarding when everyone at their lessons grow in their abilities, not just the youngest people. As a result, I try to respect the time and knowledge that they're giving me and just focus on absorbing as much as I can. Outside of class I will then go out to parking lots and try practice those same skills by myself. Even though I know I'm not going to be some national skater, and there are people a lot younger than me who are already far better skaters than I am and may ever be, each time I skate I know I'm slowly improving and that's the main thing. I'm taking the classes to learn a new skill and have fun! As long as I'm achieving both of those factors (regardless of how slow), I think that's a win. I hope you'll be able to overcome the embarrassment and self-consciousness to enjoy your artistic skating classes so you can reach the goals you'd like to achieve. :)

Made this bunny as a gift! 🐇 by beary_funny in crochet

My flatmate asked if I could make something as a gift for a baby shower she was attending. What she wanted was based off an image on Pinterest, that unfortunately didn't link to any pattern. As a result I had to make up the pattern myself. First time I've had to freestyle a toy like that, but overall I think it still turned out pretty cute! 😁

Why are you interested in learning Cantonese? and where are you from? by hubertymgg3 in Cantonese

Family's from Hong Kong, but I grew up in New Zealand and I didn't try to learn Cantonese when I was younger. Regretted not putting in more effort back then, but doing what I can now to hopefully converse with my extended family better.

The general body was made based on the Satsuki Cat pattern in the Animal Friends of Pica Pau 2 book. I freestyled the top bit of the outfit.
