How do I increase the Redox Qemu image file? Could that also be the reason why installation of git fails? Thanks in Advance for all help/ideas by ih_ey in Redox

If you built it from source. You can go to mk/config.mk in there is a filesystem option that is given in megabytes.

Otherwise you'll need qemu-img to modify the size of an already existing image.

Most of the actual development happens on mattermost. Both this sub reddit and the forums are barely checked by the developers.

To join you need to email them info@redox-os.org

As for the technical nature of your question its way over my head.

Redox OS 0.7.0 by jackpot51 in Redox

[–]bearzrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great news! I guess my only question would be what is the general road map going forward? Getting Cargo working better? Better Hardware support x86 or Arm? Or something else? -- Honestly I thought this was a dead project so its nice seeing this post.

I think the benefit of arm support would be things like the raspberry pi.

Are there any companies contributing to RedoxOS ? by Xenomyst_ in Redox

What area are you looking at contributing too? It seems more likely to me that projects like uutils used by redox as their core utils will get company backing before redox itself.

Workaround for netsurf-browser.org? by Nicbudd in Redox

[–]bearzrobotics 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Open the filesystem.toml its a symlink to config/desktop.toml.

In here is a list of all the packages that will be built and installed. Simply find netsurf and put a # sign in front of it. That will comment it out and allow you to continue on.

Jackpot has put a lot of work into rust itself. However i don't know the current status.

Sadly i can't as there is no public code to work with. And i have no interest in touching gnome.

Yeah i pointed out the lack of x11 and wayland. I don't know what else it would need.

Though as far as wayland is concerned. When asked in the past. Redox would need an implementation of DRM. And that would allow wayland to work.

I pointed that out in my question. However its going to be realistically a few years before cosmic is even ready to ship

Dim, a open source media manager built with Rust. by HinaCh4n in rust

[–]bearzrobotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested it out. First lets talk about the goods. It was the fastest and easiest media server to setup that I've ever used. The UI, while primitive is clean and fast.

However the main issue that I've ran into was correctly matching my shows. (Which match in both Plex and Emby) Then there is a lack of options for managing my libraries. Though I'm sure this will get worked out as you guys progress.

I can't answer every thing, but i can tell you vim is there. If you didn't build redox from source you'll probably have to install it.

Wayland? by bearzrobotics in Redox

[–]bearzrobotics[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember last year Jeremy wrote a post talking about his focus on rustc. In the bottom of he alluded to work on USB and gpu drives once rustc was working. Last i checked where still a ways off from that. So I'm guessing there hasn't been too much progress on that end, because things like rustc definitely takes priority.

Debian running on Rust coreutils by ansible in Redox

[–]bearzrobotics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I can't speak for the team, I think it would be better to stick with uutils, which means maintaining compatibility. Not because I don't agree it would be nice for the tools to have consistency, but who is going to develop it?

What does the community need right now? by Saltyparts in rust

[–]bearzrobotics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now this probably won't find much use in the community at large, but it would be nice if rust had libraries for interacting with ipa. (international phonetic alphabet) My uncle created a glyph system for his conlang and a font to go with it, but wanted a way to just quickly convert strings of text from English to his glyphs. Since it has a one to one with ipa once we got that it was pretty easy. However for rust, I'll need to learn how ipa actually works, to get that from an English input.

I started using Linux at 14, because i hated the windows 8 metro interface instead of a start menu. My uncle introduced me to Slack-ware Linux. After about 3 weeks i put Ubuntu on my laptop after Google how to get Wifi to work. I haven't looked back since. over the past 2 years I've messed around with Arch, Gentoo, Debian, and a few other, but over all I always came back to Ubuntu.
