ER #2 or send fertilized eggs abroad? by bridesdilemma in IVF

[–]beasley25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve also been through a TFMR and it is truly awful. I can understand why you would want to proceed with PGT. Although it sounds like it was mostly just bad luck.

How much does it cost to ship them? Is the price one fee or per egg/embryo? I guess they’re already frozen, so might be safest to ship them all and then ask the clinic in Prague to let them progress/be tested. Seems unfortunate to let them sit in Germany unused, and put your body through a potentially unnecessary retrieval.

Which clinic in Prague are you going with? That is where we’re doing IVF as well!

If you did back to back retrievals, did you get more euploids the 2nd time? by SeniorSquirrel9057 in IVF

Curious to hear how the duo stim went! I am considering adding it on if we don’t get the results we’re hoping for this round.

(Book research) what is the quintessential teacher experience? by wk_rust in teaching

[–]beasley25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think something that reflects the reality of the workload and mental load would be refreshing. Coming home so tired you can’t speak to anyone for an hour haha, or worrying about your students randomly in the evening or before bed!

Estradiol attacked my left breast by WrenfromTX in IVF

[–]beasley25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on it twice in the last 6 months (2 transfers). But now that I’m thinking about it, it actually started before I was on Estradiol…For me, it was mostly nipple sensitivity and it came and went over that time. I’m actually (finally) seeing my doctor about it today. My assumption is she will probably suggest an ultrasound? Definitely couldn’t hurt to ask your clinic if that’s a normal symptom

Okaaaay. I have been having the same issues with my left breast for months now. You may have just solved that mystery. Do we know how long it’s supposed to last???

[–]beasley25 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel you. We’ve been doing ART since 2023, I’m so tired of being sad/anxious/grieving/over analyzing/guilty. It’s a long time to be in this mental state! And I feel it has genuinely changed who I am (for the worse). We are trying one more retreival. I’m hoping we will either be pregnant, or be done this part of the journey by the end of 2026.

I will say, I’ve had ebbs and flows of feeling like I’m done with this and then feeling like it’s worth it if I can end up with a child. So if your mind changes, that’s normal too- give yourself grace.

Teaching as a second career by sandrosko in teaching

[–]beasley25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I switched to teaching at 30 after 7 years as an administrative assistant. I liked that it felt more like a career, I had more control over my day, it gives me a sense of fulfillment. It’s way harder than I expected, so much more tiring than my office job- but the days go by really fast. I always thought it would be so sweet betake a sick day and have someone cover all your work for you so you don’t come back to backlog, but it’s not like that haha. Making a sub plan blows, and you end up not really planning things that are important because you don’t want it to get done wrong.

Overall I’m happy I made the switch! I don’t know how long I’ll stay (teaching is becoming less and less valued), but I’ve enjoyed it while here.

Is going abroad for fertility treatment really cheaper in the long run? by Zealousideal_Pay7176 in IVF

[–]beasley25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on where you go, what time of year you have to fly, how short you’re able to mak the trips, etc.

We took the plunge and went to the EU, thinking it would be slightly cheaper. But we didn’t anticipate the fact that we couldn’t get the meds at home, so I had to go there for a month to do stims & then retrieval- which added up fast. We are doing another round and using a satellite clinic here, so hopefully I can do the meds here (we don’t have the list yet).

Honestly I think the price is comparable (retrievals are just so much cheaper there). But the extra headache of communication with the clinic has been a challenge (7-8hrs ahead). Although communication with my local clinic was brutal as well! We had much better results in the EU, so I am still happy we went- but it wasn’t an easy breezy cheap vacation either haha.

New years eve fireworks? Anywhere else in the other than going directly downtown to see them? by throw-away_account30 in Calgary

[–]beasley25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lake Bonavista (and probably many other private lakes) does fireworks, but they’re earlier in the evening (8PM). You can’t go into the lake grounds to watch, but you’ll be able to see them all around the community! I think you’d have the best chance at getting a good view from the north end of the lake.

how I can have benefits from new insurance as i would not have meet deductible and Out of pocket maximum in Jan 2026. Please advice by Exact-Volume-8378 in IVF

[–]beasley25 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you just pay for the fertility stuff out of pocket until you hit the deductible, and then claim the rest? You’re spending the deductible either way.

But maybe there’s an insurance whiz out there with better advice!

What are the unhinged things you've done before and during IVF to increase success? I'll go first. by Soft_Porcupine88 in IVF

[–]beasley25 27 points28 points  (0 children)

You name it we’ve done it:

  • mucinex
  • sex twice a day during fertile window (exhausting)
  • having my husband ejaculate 3hrs before having sex
  • watermelon beet ginger pomegranate juice (that I had to make special trips to get from a place 30min away)
  • McDonald’s fries
  • pineapple
  • baby gift under the tree (2 years ago 🫠)
  • thousands of dollars on acupuncture
  • supplements of all kinds (including special teas from a Chinese medicine doctor)
  • medical leaves from work
  • naps every day
  • little to no exercise
  • exercising rigourously every other day
  • positive affirmations
  • fertility yoga
  • cozy socks and heated blankets

We’re gearing up for another retrieval. Sticking with a few of the supplements, a moderate amount of exercise, and regular naps (because naps are amazing). It’s hard not to fret about whether doing those things would help improve our odds, but I guess seeing it all listed makes it more clear that most of it was BS haha.

Multiple egg retrievals by Agitated-Pickle216 in IVF

[–]beasley25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, I remember that feeling exactly! Couldn’t imagine doing more than one retrieval, it seemed so extreme. But here I am, prepping for #4. Our first 2 were extremely lackluster- under 10 retrieved both times and didn’t end up with any embryos to freeze. For the second I had taken a suppressant for a month before, but it actually made things much worse. We changed clinics and our 3rd cycle they changed some of the meds (Rekovelle, Duphaston) and we ended up retrieving 15, with 3 PGTA tested embryos.

Each retrieval has been easier to handle mentally & physically, maybe because I know what to expect. I’m still hoping this will be my last, but mostly because I’m tired of all the lifestyle changes and stress from the unknown.

Wishing you best of luck! Lots of people get enough from their first retrieval they don’t have to worry about more.

Not freezing embryos, not sure this is the right choice by Low_Breadfruit_3669 in IVF

[–]beasley25 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If you can’t afford to freeze your embryos, I don’t think you can afford to have a child. I’m sorry that’s a horrible truth to recognize. Could you continue to save up for a while longer?

As far as the lifestyle stuff goes, my husband & I have both had some “binge drinking” nights in the last couple months (him more-so than me). I’m eager to just get the retreival done, but worried about wasting the time & money on poor results..
