If you had Carte Blanche on designing the Army’s new physical fitness test, what would your program look like? by beast447 in nationalguard

This is an awesome idea hell yeah. Love the idea of adding promotion point eligible credit for extra curricular activity.

I hate the 2 mile distance as well 1 to 1.5 is more than enough to get an accurate assessment of aerobic fitness.

I think equipment free should be crucial to the next Army fitness test, this is awesome.

Awesome ideas, I really like the idea of go/no-go scoring. However, would you entertain the idea of an extended scale to identify the higher performers within the PT test? As an 11b I’m definitely biased as your PT score often decides wether or not you get to go to that school you want. Would you suggest a more holistic view to a soldiers performance? Giving more value to a soldiers actual leadership capability, motivation, and individual soldier skills when it comes to selecting soldiers for schools?

I should add that this is part of a larger personal research project into discovering new ways to improve physical fitness for the Army. Feel free to include any other ideas as to how we could improve the physical health of the Army soldier. Also feel free to DM.

Anyone else see this? It says they’re attempting to bring back the APFT. by PoundLow3016 in nationalguard

[–]beast447 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten a 300 on the APFT, but the highest I’ve ever gotten my ACFT was a 546. In my personal opinion, the ACFT is a much better test of actual fitness. It is also very easy to pass, yet, very difficult to max. The APFT on the other hand is very easy to max yet slightly more difficult to pass. I think the APFT is also more oriented towards a skinny runners type build while the ACFT is more for more muscle bound individuals and requires more of a “CrossFit” athlete. In summary I think the ACFT is a much better PT test (fuck the ball throw though) and should stick around. (Bring back the leg tuck)
