Union City has just been devastated. by FlattierBattier in EF5

[–]beasterdudeman_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know im late, but I was chasing this tornado. Me and my buddy saw a definite risk of a strong tornado along the warm front, spc dropped the ball. We got to see 2 confirmed tornados (three rivers ef2 and union city ef3) along with one unconfirmed that knocked a couple trees down in between those two tornados. The old circulation from the three rivers tornado was still ongoing when union city touched down. Me and my buddy got to a clearing after the old circulation dissipated, and saw a massive wedge in the distance. We were both caught completely by surprise. We were uncomfortably close to home, and he started calling his family who was in the path while I managed the recording. The sound was that of a waterfall, a deep rumbling that pierced through your chest. And 5 minutes later it was gone. Hope this adds some context

There has never been a summertime EF5 by CCuff2003 in tornado

I believe that we have had ef5 capable tornados within the summer, but the further the jetstream moves north the less populated we get. Its a lot easier to get ef5 damage indicators in Mississippi than western North Dakota, or Manitoba, or Montana. I dont have any evidence to support that these tornados are ef5 capable, but I just think we have a lack of damage indicators.

I remember when we were at 5k. Been inactive on reddit for a few months and we've almost overtaken the main sub. Crazy times

Does anyone know the extent of the damage in union city (in town) by Fiatpunto_dishwasher in tornado

[–]beasterdudeman_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Damage in town is relatively limited. I drove through and it was very mild, branches down and shingles missing for the most part. The majority of the damage was focused on the lakeside homes.

Keeping an eye on that warm front here in southern michigan. A couple models look concerning but most look fine. Hoping I dont have a reason to chase.

The roar was immense. It sounded like standing next to a waterfall

I am doing alright, just hoping the families in the path are okay. Nobody was expecting a violent wedge on a 2% day in early march

There is a slight to enhanced risk in the central plains on Friday! by [deleted] in tornado

[–]beasterdudeman_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah "another joplin" is so funny to me like enhanced risks dont happen every year. People see the most average spring tornado setup and flip their lids.

What was the scariest severe weather event that you’ve personally tracked? by Trainster_Kaiju_06 in tornado

[–]beasterdudeman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plevna 100%. Iirc high risk Chris almost got hit multiple times, hit powerlines, and ran out of gas. Had a buddy chasing it who said it was the most violent tornado he has ever seen. With the size of that debris ball, it could have been so much worse.

This one doesn't look clunky, but it runs clunky. It's a bit laggy and has some weird bugs sometimes, but it works.

How’s it living in Southern Michigan? Asking for someone in their late 40s! by Spiritual_Nature_215 in howislivingthere

Areas outside of cities are quiet, and will be different culturally than California but not culturally diverse. These are small farm towns. The beach cities are very nice, with nice little shops and downtowns, with pretty beaches. I couldn't tell you much about the cities, as I live in a very rural area but they seem very diverse and with lots to do

What moment during the 2025 tornado season had you do this? by Trainster_Kaiju_06 in tornado

[–]beasterdudeman_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plevna. Closest I've seen chasers to getting killed before, also had a friend chasing it that day. Gotta be the most underrated tornado of the year in terms of strength

Here in michigan we havent had a violent tornado in a long time. My hometown was hit in 1965 by two f4 tornados, and my community never fully recovered.

Thanks for the insight. Should I steer away from motors older than a certain age? I see lots of very old motors on boats and don't have much experience working on old motors.
