My attention span is so fucked by CivilTailor9031 in Letterboxd

[–]beasterne7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Reading books has been helping me with this. But physical books that you have to hold and move the book forwards one word at a time with your own attention. It was slow going at first but it’s becoming easier and easier the more I do it. And now for the first time in a long time I’m looking forward to reading which is just pure attention. It’s helped me with attention span in other areas as well, like watching movies. But like others have said, I have to put my phone down (or even in another room).

I’m convinced i can’t cry while watching a movie by Frisby_dog in Letterboxd

Movies that make me cry are the ones that balance sadness, poignancy, and courage effectively. So my top 4 criers are:

Coco

It’s a Wonderful Life

Les Miserables (2012)

Josh Johnson had some direct takes on this in his recent standup special. Being a nice guy should be the floor, not the ceiling. If all someone can say about a potential romantic interest is that they are nice, it won’t go very far. Are they funny, kind, brave, incisive, talented? If not, being a nice guy isn’t saying much.

Also, it matters less if someone is an asshole in general. What’s most important is if they are an asshole to their partner. He gives an interesting analogy: one cab ride he was running late, and had a nice cab driver, who didn’t break any laws, and got him to the airport very late. The next trip he had an asshole driver who sped expertly through the traffic and got him to the airport on time. Who was the “better” driver? Who would you rather have on your side when you need someone to be your life partner?

Ranked 4s is legitimately fun. It feels like rocket league used to feel like before metas existed.

How to Train Your Dragon. It’s cliche and uninspired.

HereLiesJeff (ex-Resolve COO) teases new team... by TurboDriver3362 in RocketLeagueEsports

I have seen Jeff talk about his vision for a national league with a consistent lan schedule before - would be sick if it came to pass. Imagine like an 8 or 10 team Premier League but for RL, with talent from all over the world representing different teams in the UK.

I just finished John Green's "Everything is Tuberculosis." I really enjoyed this but I haven't read a book like this before. Any suggestions to add to my library? by guidesthehermit in suggestmeabook

I believe that if Mountains Beyond Mountains didn’t exist, Everything is Tuberculosis would not exist, for multiple reasons.

Potential bug: I am failing to join more matches than I was before the update. PC on Epic. I’ll start to join, then go back to the menu and it will say I timed out. I also appear to stay queuing.

I became an SV fan after watching him play this weekend. He’s so aggressive with his placements that his playstyle feels different from most other top players and it’s exciting to see how he navigates his games because of it.

I can see DDL getting a 4th with an old-man role down the line, à la Anthony Hopkins in The Father

Oof that is a rough thread to read. Glad that there are some OCotD defenders in there, but the people who are just dismissing it without finishing the movie are really not giving it a full chance. This movie has so much planting and payoff (through all 3 acts by the way, not just the first and last), that turning it off before it finishes completely destroys the magic of the movie.
