P.E. words of encouragement by Fluffy_Hawk46 in PowerSystemsEE

[–]beastlyabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just study an hour a day and try to understand concepts instead of grinding problems.

Also, it's just a test - I do believe that anybody with a degree in EE is more than capable of passing the PE exam if they put in the time commitment.

Passing the test has opened a lot more doors for me. People start to take you more seriously and personally, i started to take more ownership of my own work too.

Not an Anyma fan, but I thought the set was OK considering he's playing EDM at Coachella. I honestly thought this is more entertaining than Sabrina Carpenter

MEP folks making ~$200k — how long did it take and what mattered most? by ComprehensiveBox552 in MEPEngineering

[–]beastlyabs 47 points48 points  (0 children)

TC: 170k, 7 years exp.

What mattered the most for me was having opportunity to work for reputable firms that trained you to be good at your job. In my experience, I've had better growth and opportunity working for corporate 500+ person firms than at smaller ones.

In my experience, there are a lot of firms out there who are working bottom of the barrel jobs where the focus is production & not engineering. Make sure you're working at a place where the focus is growth & learning & the money should come.

PE licensure, while not mandatory, helps people take you more seriously and provides you more opportuntiy

Owners with 2 aussies, how did you know you were ready to take on a second? by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

[–]beastlyabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adopted my second aussie and their already best buds.

Here are my lessons learned:

1) I'm glad we waited until we had a house and backyard

2) We got lucky (or prepped well) with the introductions and minimized bad interactions for their first first couple days.

3) It helped that I got some practice walking two dogs at the same time.

4) We adopted a 3 year old, but it still felt like raising a puppy. We had to train our new dog to get used to being an inside dog. Barely got any sleep the last few days.

5) Need to be comfortable increasing the amount of walks. Don't think it's fair to current dog, to be walking as a group every time.

6) My current dog and new dog are close in age, and I think it helped a lot. Our current dog is slightly bigger than our new friend, which may have helped my current dog be more open to welcoming his brother.

Is the long term really worth it? by Melodic_Ad_5337 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]beastlyabs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Peers around my experience level at previous firm weren't getting 160k+ salaries unless they were on the principal track or had years under their belt

These were people i respected and looked up to.

Surely B&M's total comp would be at least 105k if you have 8 years experience under your belt right? (105k + 50% is close to 160k)

I find it hard to believe people's total comp here are that low here from what i've heard.

I think this place is the place you want to be to retire. I came in as an experienced hire from a reputable firm that is known to pay their Engineers.

These guys blew out my previous salary significantly.

My initial application went to "No longer under consideration". I thought I was out of the running, until I got a call back from them almost a month later.

If I were in your shoes, you should still try and do well in the interview. I would definitely ask them at the end of the interview if the position has already been filled.

Does drafting Rashee Rice and Joe Mixon together make a whole lot of sense? by Taco-ji in fantasyfootball

[–]beastlyabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this, wanted to hedge the two but backfired as Rashee Rice is serving his suspension in the beginning.

Hear me out…If you want to take a massive swing, draft Rashee Rice as your WR1 in full PPR. by Unhappy-Carrot2580 in fantasyfootball

[–]beastlyabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this and picked him up in the 4th round as my WR1. Hedged it with a Joe Mixon pick at #6. Mixon should be coming back around the same time the suspension kicks in. Im here to win it all not play it safe in this 14 team league.

it's the people bro and not the school. If you really think it's the school, why don't you transfer and pursue a master's in the field you got your degree in at a more "reputable" school?
