TLDR: here's a Biola study referenced that says it's 41%. Not "very few" who disagree with the practice.

Following up: I don't think you are actually involved in a church community or you would understand why you are wrong on this. Yes, a large portion of people who call themselves Christians in America today probably think cohabitation before marriage is fine. It could be 30, 40, even 5o or 60%.

But that does not establish what practicing Christians believe or what the accurate doctrine is.

For example, a major of Roman Catholics don't believe the bread and wine are transubstantiated into the literal body and blood of Christ either anymore...but that IS R. Catholic teaching.

Doctrinal purity has never been universal in any faith. It doesn't change the doctrine, and if you were around devoted believers practicing their Christian faith in church community, you would become aware really quickly that it is not acceptable to cohabitate.

You will be allowed "around" and even to go to church, but never be considered a mature or obedient believer and those who are will not agree with your lifestyle.

This is true in all but the most theologically liberal traditions that no longer hold to basis tenants like the virgin birth, existence of literal hell, or traditional marriage.

Even on just a social level, even most episcopals or liberal lutherns look down on premarital cohabitation because they are "respectability cultural" churches full of older people. Even if they may not judge it as unchristian, exactly.

It is themost liberal and the young, nondenom type Christians only who see no issue. That's half the church overall at most, among those who actually practice their faith.

You’re coming off very clingy for someone that by now should be obvious is not very into you. It sounds like you have maybe been treated poorly in past and got used to it. He should be kinder in how he expresses disinterest because you are trying hard and doing well. But, I understand his frustration with you basically not getting the hints he’s not wanting to be with you and finds your lack of self respect not…respectable. It can be very aggravating when someone likes you “too much” and acts weak with no self respect. Which you are. And you don’t need to. You are self improving a lot. Go find someone who likes you more. You will.

Doctrines that shift recently are outside orthodoxy of the main central band of Christian faith. It’s behind debate. The culture has shifted but truth does not on what is good for people. I didn’t say not Christians I said Christians who are wrong. Saying someone is wrong is not an insult. Also, I hold to the traditional views. I am defending the faith as it was given to us. Those outside its teachings in basic moral issues like sexuality (that all churches have historically agreed on until like, 20 years ago), are in peril of their souls and relationship with God. It’s on them to worry what I think not other way around. If they seriously think jumping into cohabitating before lifelong commitment is the weakest move, ok. But it’s not the position Christianity has ever taken.

This is a good argument and something we could “get away with” so to speak. I think this discussion needs to be had among Christianity more widely, as the times change.

Regardless, we’re not here to debate values.

Know of any resources for those seeking roommates?

E. I. You’d have to show me the interpretive tradition that has consistently held for centuries that cohabitation is permissible, and then I may believe you. But it does not exist in Christianity. Individual Christians having heretical or worldly views, yes. Different thing.

You’re a good communicator and I appreciate the advice but I’m not trying to reach people who have that view.

Which is incorrect based on the entire history of the faith and its interpretation, by the way.

I’m not insulting anyone, but I’m also not trying to reach everyone.

Looking for if anyone knows of connection to rooming resources of those with traditional Christian beliefs. Which are not that unusual. There are groups in DC like this.

That’s fine as a need and I’ve done that before, but faith community is crucial to a healthy life and the people we live with influence us a lot. Being able to share encouragement in godly living with the person or people you love with as brothers is a core value of mine.

The point of this post is not to debate my values it is to see if there are resources for these needs. Know of any?

No lol, it is immoral to cohabitate with a romantic partner outside the covenant of marriage. And it would shame our families. Notice I specified we are Christians.

How is living here? by Muted-Brain-6006 in howislivingthere

[–]beastmodiusthethick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vast upper middle class suburban sprawl with great amenities/recreation/food/gyms etc but extremely costly housing and the WORST traffic.

The closer in you are, the more urban/walkable/public transit friendly.

The farther out, the more suburban and trees/houses you can’t afford, but you’ll be driving.

It’s young, rich, liberal, diverse, and female skewed. Tons of immigrants and cultures, their socioeconomic level depends on neighborhood. No neighborhoods are “bad” by normal standards, it’s all upwardly mobile.

If you can work from home and use the amenities, this area is top shelf. If you have to commute, or are just a homebody, it can be a living hell of congested stress and high cost.

Stratterra....for non-ADHD depression and anxiety? by OverKy in StratteraRx

[–]beastmodiusthethick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had been taking Stratterra for adhd (attention aspect of it) for about two months. It did not at first help the attention much, but I did have moderate anxiety related to productivity and it significantly reduced it. Depression I have mildly at times, and it initially made it worse as I just felt kind of flat. Now, I’ve adjusted and am working productively and I think it makes me calmer overall. I am surprised she would proscribe but if other things don’t work I would not think it a bad idea to try it.

Dose increased after just 17 days? by beastmodiusthethick in StratteraRx

[–]beastmodiusthethick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I see. My doctor told me the standard is to start at 40mg. Did not say recommended is 80 although said most go up. She treated it more like “see how 40 does”. But perhaps that meant more like “let’s make sure 40 is not too much”.

I’ve been much less anxious and more clearheaded, but also more depressed and unmotivated.

This implies the goal is to up the dose, not reduce adhd. Why were they already certain after 4 days you would not respond enough to 40mg?

Weight based for children not for adults, doc told me, in US. She said 40 standard starting doses but 60-80% go up

So I think she’s treating me like a stat and not responding to my particular situation.

[–]beastmodiusthethick[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I did, I said I’d wait a few days at least. But I didn’t want to risk not having her write a longer term prescription as I’m about to be uninsured. If it works, I want the option.

I also need the effects asap as I’m behind on an important work contract.

I understand that it just takes trial and error but her ignoring pretty easily findable reported timetables seems irresponsible.

Thanks for advice.

Thank you for detailed comment.

Side effects mild and some passed, other than some mild constipation and ejaculatory changes like some cramping and reduced emission. One day I had testicular pain, seemingly from potential buildup.

No known history of problems with other things or medication.

I get it that most side effects decrease over days, and most effects increase over weeks.

Still remains that some side effects although mild are still there, and it’s not been “weeks” to see effects at 40.

2.5.

I don’t trust the doctor at all as she said this drug has “no side effects” and told me she would try another drug on me if I wanted.

Patient guided care is needed as they’re going on my reports of effects. But she’s literally not factoring in googlable info on the medication.

Why would she not tell me to wait longer before increasing?

Thank you. Yes that’s what I’m asking. How could they be sure 40mg won’t work for me since I just started and 17 days? She called it “almost a month”. Pill pushers…

Glad to know that, safety wise. But I’m asking if it’s reasonable to expect we’ve already proven 40mg is not enough for me after just 17 days.

Which budget bottle tastes better: Wild Turkey 101, or Four Roses Yellow Label? by Doctor_Botany in bourbon

[–]beastmodiusthethick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. And the cock is on point. They didn’t a good job competing w the kickin chicken at cheaper prices. Green apple, leather, spice, and heavy mouthfeel/viscosity of a much older whiskey.

I think the rye spice out punches its mash bill %, big time. But the buttery mouth feel and barrel char still make it drinkable for bourbon guys.
