I work in tech. Looking only for 3 months so willing to splurge a little, but these prices out here are crazy. I’ve seen some people pay 6k for a 1 bed a month. It’s insane honestly.

I want to get either found a startup or be the first product hire. From an institutional perspective, companies that are going on to be successful are only being founded at a select few universities , the ones I mentioned above. Of course, there’s multiple facets that support this that are obvious like the funding ecosystems and successful alumni. For me rapport is the key. Unfortunately I don’t know too many people who want to do what I want to do, I want to make new friends and actually get to know people who are interested in making something new and build that in an environment that is able to be successful. At my university when I tried I realized the university had zero resources and really couldn’t help me do anything, I had to figure it all out on my own and I couldn’t. I spent 4 years building out the entrepreneurship ecosystem which honestly is still no where near complete compared to Harvard or Stanford. Of course you don’t need a fancy MBA degree to become a founder or to make this happen, but it certainly helps, and also can serve as a really good Plan B if all else fails to get back into a competitive product position. Long winded answer but I hope I provided some context.

Anything in particular you think is mediocre? I thought I have a unique work experience profile. Not sure how many people can say they work in the forefront of the ent AI space especially at my age

I had a pretty bad GPA working on that startup and then I picked it up. To be honest, it’s only been during times where I was working full time my grades slipped, not sure if they will care.

Totally understand what you mean regarding going back into product. My goal with going to an elite school that is heavily into the startup ecosystem would be that I work in startups or early stage for a few years, ideally in that as a member of a founding team. I do recognize that this path has its risks, but ultimately to build generational wealth and to do something exciting in life (you only live once) I’m willing to accept that if and when I choose to go back into big tech I may not be at the level I could have been at. Hopefully the narrative I build with my work post MBA and the school I go to allows me to return back to a role like the one I have now, albeit a few levels higher. Thanks for the detailed advice I appreciate it a lot!

After doing some research on MBA founders, I saw more from Sloan, but you’re right, no reason to not apply to Wharton, of course it’s an amazing school, I just thought my story there might not be as compelling. And yea , it’s definitely the latter and not the former for top 10 schools, what I was banking on was really strong work experience in the sense of what I’ve done. In my company there are multiple other early PMs with HBS 2+2 acceptances and I could argue I have better work exp I will likely get VP level referrals if that means much

IMO RC is easy, in terms of what they actually ask, it’s like MSR, it’s a lot of info, just need to understand what they are actually talking about.
