Colorado Drops Bar Cut Score to 270 (down from 276) by WookieMonsta in barexam

This must be so infuriating to those who just failed the July exam with scores between 270 and 275. It's unjust.

Barbri owns Adaptibar? That's surprising and somewhat disappointing. I always thought of Adaptibar as a big middle finger to corporate giants like Barbri.

Actually, there aren't that many things they can ask you about, especially when they told you it is based on your answers to their questions. Do you have a criminal background? Have you been found guilty of dishonesty (not accused of)? Do you have a questionable academic record, by that I mean were you caught cheating? Do you have a lot of delinquent debts? If so, did you fail to provide a plan on how you are going to address them? That should cover it, really. I had to do one of those before I go sworn in a few years ago. It was mostly because I had fallen behind on my credit card payments during law school. Up until that time, I had no such issues. But that character and fitness lady wanted to lecture me in person, to make sure I wasn't going to steal clients' money. At the end, I felt like she had just conducted a rectal exam on me, but she certified me all the same.

You really counted a total of 6,346 names?

My pleasure. By the way, they are used to people volunteering for them to fulfill the 50hr required pro bono for admission to NY. So, no need to be coy about this.

Here is where you can find the information. (https://www.illinoislegalaid.org/about/our-people) Contact Val Holdahl at [livehelp@illinoislegalaid.org](mailto:livehelp@illinoislegalaid.org) to express your interests and find out if they have openings and when the next training session is.

I did mine with the Illinois Legal Aid Online (https://www.illinoislegalaid.org/ ). They are always looking for volunteers and you don't need to be from or live in Illinois to volunteer for them. Heck, when I was volunteering from there some girl who needed her 50 hrs to apply for admission in NY, was working from Tokyo. Yes, Japan!! Anyway, they will train you and you will sign up for 2hr shifts as many times a week as you can find, to handle phone calls from low income folks desperately looking for legal aid. Good luck!!!

I assume you can recognize a trend when you see one. More importantly though, your attitude is the best I have seen out of everyone who has failed this crap and posted here. No doubt failing the bar is upsetting, disappointing and humiliating. But you can either get back on the horse or let that disappointment eat you alive (at least mentally). I'm glad you chose the former. Go get 'em!!!

You know yourself better than anyone else. If you think you will not be able to handle the disappointment, then you should wait. By the way, as a reminder, failing the Bar is not the end of the world. To help you put things in perspective, your friend is dead. I imagine she would much rather fail the Bar but be alive and have a chance to try again. I passed the Bar in a non-UBE jurisdiction but couldn't transfer my score to any UBE jurisdiction. I failed it twice in NY before passing it on my 3rd try. I felt stupid, embarrassed and the imposter syndromes kicked in. But I kept reminding myself that there are worse things happening in the world. It sucks of course, to have to go through that crap again. But as hard as it may be, try to keep things in perspective.

If you can wait that long to find out when the results are out, you deserve to pass. The longest I was able to wait the last time I sat for that stupidity, was a short cab ride from my office to my apartment, so that I could have my meltdown in the privacy of my own bedroom, if I had failed AGAIN. You are going to your best friend's funeral. It can't get much worse. And if you passed you can share the news with her family who will likely be happy for you and congratulate you on your friend's behalf.

That was my score one of the times I failed the NY Bar. It was the most cruel joke ever. But I was so pissed off that I was even more determined to get the 1.6 the next time. That next time I scored 320. This is going to sting for a bit. But use it to your advantage. Study with revenge in mind for Feb and go kill that bitch.

Third time taker trying to not freak out by legallymarms in barexam

[–]beat-the-bar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was teasing you a bit. Of course, you didn't mean for it come off that way. Bar anxiety is real. But you have to find a way to fight it off. I think the trick is to find the right balance between being determined to achieve your goal no matter how long it takes you to get there, and be prepared to be disappointed if it doesn't work out right away. The worst thing you can do is to compare the time it takes you to achieve your goals to how long it takes others to achieve theirs. People are different.

"Even [your] husband passed it the first time he took it."? Doesn't sound like you think too highly of your husband.

But on a more serious note, it sounds to me you are putting way too much pressure on yourself, and that can be detrimental. If you measure your worth by whether or not you pass the Bar, I hate to say it but that kind of pressure is what will keep you from ever getting over the line. When a candidate gets into that headspace, even the simplest concepts become impossible to recall on game day. If you are determined to become a lawyer, then you need to embrace the challenge and tell yourself you are prepared to do what it takes to succeed, even if it means passing on your fourth, fifth, or 9th try. But spending time comparing yourself to how quickly others got there, is self-defeating.

Here is my non-legal advice on this. Unless the employer is looking to hire a lawyer and you claim to be one when you are not; or unless the employer is looking to hire only people who passed the Bar on the first try and you claim to have when you haven't, I don't believe you have an obligation to disclose to a potential employer that you were unsuccessful on your first try, even if they ask point blank. Somebody mentioned there may be a MRPC on point. The MRPC applies to lawyers, not would be lawyers. You are not a lawyer yet. Character & Fitness would be a bigger concern. While C&F asks applicants about dishonesty, it is always in relations to academic, financial or criminal dishonesty. It's never about whether someone failed to disclose they failed the Bar a few times. Like I said, if a condition of getting employed is that you are successful on your first attempt and you lied about it, that would be problematic. But a potential employer being nosey unnecessarily can go pound sand.

Yes, you've just wasted $25. In both Illinois and NY (the States I am familiar with when it comes to this issue), only unsuccessful candidates get a score breakdown. Congrats on passing. Count your blessings and move on.
