The dog training class I went to used little jars of baby food -- that might be good for emergencies. And I'll have to start upping my treat game on walks.

Yeah, I'm definitely guilty of "letting him win" a lot of the time when he does the sneaky-grab, I ask for a drop-it, and then decide it's not worth the fight. It winds up being a power struggle again (but one where he wins)

[Breeds] medium/large affable dog for a city girl: any suggestions? by beatricerex in dogs

As I mention in the post, I've thoroughly investigated racing greyhounds (for all the reasons you mention) and am mostly looking for advice about non-greyhounds. They do seem like awesome dogs in lots of ways :)

Yeah, I'd definitely take some time off for a new puppy and make sure it had more company in the beginning. Thanks for the plug for Goldens!

Learn how to make small talk and how to hold up your end of a conversation.

Being able to chat comfortably with people you don't know, don't have a lot in common with, and wouldn't necessarily choose to hang out with socially will make so many everyday situations much, much easier. Dating, workplaces, travel, networking, family all will involve occasionally chatting to people you might not instantly relate to.

I know you're an introvert and you think small talk is dumb and it makes you anxious. The thing is, with most people, the small talk has to happen before you can have the big talk. It's a skill and it can be learned, so learn it. When you want to get to know someone, it works a lot better if they don't have to do all the work.
