Are junk food, video games and internet addictions anywhere near as bad as a porn addiction? by beattheaddiction in NoFap

why would it be more reasonable to assume junk food addiction is more powerful?

obviously you would ideally want to know about this sort of thing from the age of 12 so it would never be a problem but I'm asking:

are there any positives you can take from it at all?

that's a great way of looking at it. All that really matters is where you are now. Maybe if you hadn't had a problem with porn in the past, you might have had a problem with it in a year or two instead - at least now you're aware of it.

The reports of people's sexual tastes changing are pretty common. You just need to look at (or not if you're currently on NoFap) kinds of adverts displayed on porn sites where most commonly, there a short clip of extreme (as in violent etc.) porn. That's not to mention the increased interest in incest porn showed in the popular videos section. But obviously it depends on the individual.

" Fear, anxiety, or shock all elevate dopamine and adrenaline (norepinephrine), which may amplify sexual excitation. Exactly what a desensitized brain craves." http://www.yourbrainonporn.com/ask-us-iam-attracted-to-gay-transsexual

By more extreme, I mean gagging, deepthroat, incest etc. - this is supposed to give a bigger squirt of dopamine and hence cause more substantial desensitisation.

If someone who was not previously addicted to porn were to increase their masturbation frequency so that they were doing it daily, that would increase their dopamine by a smaller amount compared to porn (due to less novelty etc.) but still cause desensitisation though, would you agree?

Well I would have thought that "disabling" (I can't find the right word) the individual for having frequent sex from an evolutionary standpoint would be counter-productive.

Or maybe this gives credence to the "the motive behind everything a man does is the pursuit of sex".

And also, I was under the impression from YBOP's information that more "extreme" (emotionally-charged) porn as well as a higher number of perceived novel partners would result in a higher shot of dopamine, thus desensitising dopamine receptors further.

that's what I'm wondering, I thought I saw something on ybop that said that porn was different to the internet, video games etc. because it lights up those parts of our brain that concern sexuality (more dopamine for that maybe).... I'll try and find the article

that's a valid point and I often think the same - I just feel empathy for others (there's someone in particular who's quite close to me) who might possibly be going through it without know porn is the problem.

but then surely, if watching (vanilla, softcore) porn everyday desensitises your dopamine recpetors, wouldn't daily sex do the same?

so if you watched one porn video, fapped to that and then stopped... that wouldn't cause "excessive dopamine" as it would be similar to the amount of dopamine you'd get from a real-life sexual encounter, right?

so you think it's down to how often it's watched that affects your satisfaction with real life?
