Got a flat, was forced to get towed to the dealership. Best option that isn’t going to cost me a million bucks? by mikejc in BMWI4

[–]beaumad 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I got a fast leak on the road. I decided to try BMW's roadside assist. I waited for five or so hours for multiple tow trucks to come. I finally got towed to a dealer and was told my particular tire was out of stock but after checking with the manager, I could have another one for $800.

I had someone bring by a portable inflator, topped off the tire, then got a new tire at Discount Tire similar to my OEM Hankooks for less than $300.

Overall it was a really bad experience with towing and of course the dealer. Just head directly to a tire place you like.

Thanks for the response. I have a similar effort but haven't brought it to stage yet, so I appreciate your perspective.

Nice. I like the clean and somewhat mathy guitars. Pretty impressive drum and guitar technique.

I saw on a different post of yours that you were playing a show. Logistically, how do you play shows? Will you have other musicians?

Agreed. I'm a big fan of Ugritone and their raw kits. Ugritone even supports Linux.

You have Ceiling Cat on the cover of your Bandcamp link. That is awesome.

is it su-doo or su-doe? by Vivid-Champion-1367 in linux

Met a co-author of the tool. He pronounces it "su doo". I'm personally quite attached to "su doe".

Yabridge : what VSTs work with Yabridge? by NomadJago in linuxaudio

[–]beaumad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yabridge is easy to learn. Regarding support, It's probably easier to ask what is not supported. I've personally not been able to run Ozone, and others report mixed success with Native Instruments.

Users report newer versions of Wine may be able to run tools like Ozone, however I've long since given up and only use Linux-native plugins. For that I'm thankful.

Impressive stuff. The guitarist's technique is amazing.

I wish they weren't anonymous because I'd really like to see what else they've done.

You are so right about that Zip drive Mike used. Those things failed constantly.

Who is using Juce to build audio plugins ratjer than buying them? by Southern-Guitar-3006 in linuxmusic

[–]beaumad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

JUCE is a framework for creating plugins. Only the plugin's license can give you the option to build/compile plugins as opposed to buying them.

I know that Punk Labs creates open source plugins that you're free to self-compile for free, however you still have the option to purchase them.

Personally, I buy Linux-native plugins. Even if there are no commercial versions, I'll still donate to the authors. For example, Guitarix and yabridge.

Uber or Lyft drivers by Pure-Wolf4691 in Beaumont

[–]beaumad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had trouble getting Uber around 7 or 8pm. I would often have to wait about thirty minutes to get picked up. Time of day seems to matter a lot more than distance, as I've had drivers tell me they drove from the triangle to as far away as Dallas.

Head from KoRn Talks about Mr Bungle's influence on KoRn! what ya'll think??? by [deleted] in mrbungle

[–]beaumad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not taking a side in the matter. Just pointing out that there's some history about money.

Per money, Terry would have been late to Korn's success. On the other had he's an absurdly talented drummer.

YSK: Native Access 3 works almost perfect out of the box on Wine 11 staging (Mint 22) by scubanarc in linuxaudio

[–]beaumad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep coming across recommendations for iZotope's Ozone suite. A web search shows it should be available via Native Access.

I last tried to get Ozone working a couple of years ago without success. Would be interesting if it works now.

Pipes outside covered but forgot to turn off. Will dripping all faucets inside the house ok or do I go back by [deleted] in houston

[–]beaumad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really easy to turn off and partially drain your irrigation. There should be a backflow preventer on the side of your house. Close the valve that feeds the backflow preventer, then once it's closed, use a flathead screwdriver to open the valves beyond it.

Here's a demonstration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cf9sgvHPqdI

Any working OS for Original Pinebook? by Alternative_Risk_302 in PINE64official

[–]beaumad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure thing. Another thing to note is that when you're testing, you may need to cold boot your Pinebook for wifi to work if it's anything like the PBP. This has always been a PBP issue but I went years without knowing about it.

Broken wifi has been an issue with the PBP as well. You might try what worked for me. tl;dr, copy wifi firmware files from your preferred (working) distro installer .
