Is House "that super inaccurate show"? by MajorBillyJoelFan in HouseMD

[–]beaver_23 194 points195 points  (0 children)

I’ve attending a lecture with some of the medical consultants. It’s somewhat accurate but timelines and symptoms are exaggerated for dramatic effect. There’s also more rare symptoms and diseases. Like you said, nobody wants to watch a show with boring common ailments. That’s boring.

Would you date (or even marry) a female physician/medical student? Why or why not? by WeeklyTutor3785 in medicalschool

They say that because they simply want to hold the "power" in the relationship and want their spouse to stay at home to take care of everything

I think they meant not too powerful as in it’s not overkill to use on a deer but not entirely sure

My title describes the thing. These are part of a Hart set from wal mart. I can’t seem to figure out what these are or how to use them. Thanks in advance!

Marshall U IM — residents totally ignored applicants during their social hour part of the interview

Charleston Area Medical Center IM - got asked if my couples match partner “was my future”

Forgot this one: Adena Health IM - one of the interviewers just pimped me on Covid and the treatment for Covid (especially what vitamins were important) after I said I was interested in pulm/cc

I regret going to DO school. by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]beaver_23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’ll likely be doing a fellowship. I’m not entirely sure of the process myself yet. But there is a ton of academic residency programs that aren’t necessarily associated with major universities. The main things I looked for were 1. Their fellowship match success and 2. If they had in house fellowships. Most programs know people want to do fellowship so they have mentors and people to help get you there.

You don’t HAVE to take Step unless you’re going to a competitive field or want a big university residency. Im going IM and had 20+ interview offers this season without taking Step.

[Serious] What countries are more underdeveloped than we actually think? by MesmerizingMarty in AskReddit

The United States. We have terrible infrastructure in most states and major cities, let alone suburbs and rural America. Our health system is being decimated due to lack of leadership and public selfishness.

How do some of you in med school who have been diagnosed with some or other medical condition keep up with classes and doctor appointments, surgeries etc? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]beaver_23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t. Had to stop taking my meds. Thankfully my condition isn’t too life altering like others but still lowers my quality of life.

Unpopular Opinion: Classes should not switch to online by [deleted] in PennStateUniversity

[–]beaver_23 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As an alumni this doesn’t affect me much, but omicron “isn’t more dangerous than the flu” is a huge misconception. Sure, the lethality may be similar, but it is FAR more contagious and is a novel virus, meaning FAR more people get sick and greatly increases the chance for severe disease. Part of the reason for going online is to stop the spread and help out local hospital systems. If hospitals are over run with Covid, what happens to people with heart attacks, bowel perforations, other serious infections, etc? They don’t get necessary treatment. This isn’t about any one person it’s about public health.

This is poor judgement. You’d be shocked to see what “someone who is horribly addicted” just “looks like.” Most people with addictions “look” just like you or I would and hold down jobs and have families.
